We had the good fortune of connecting with Saudia Raye and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Saudia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was all over the place. ( hints the brand name ) I just knew the end goal for me, was to help people in a way that reasons with anybody and that was through clothing .
Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Getting where I am today began once I recognized my capabilities. Starting a business is not easy but it is worth the while and fruitful once you learn the tricks of the trade. You have to be open to change and most of all you have to believe in yourself. One thing about me, I don’t give up there’s always a plan A, B, C, D, E and F to my strategies, so if one way doesn’t work; That’s fine I’ll try another way. Everyone isn’t always gonna get it on the first try so I have to constantly think this way in order to check things off my list and keep it going. – Challenges are only small hills to a giant Looking back on the growth of my brand, I feel as though I’ve learned a lot about patience, my seasons and what it means to fully embrace what Disarraye is. I’ve come along way mentally to really make this brand what it needed to be; by teaming up with a few IG graphic designers to collaborate with and bring my many different visions to life. In a wacky way while I help people be comfortable with who they are, I also want to get them to know who I am too. Disarraye Brand is a brand created for mental health, style, and self expression. Coming into year 3, I created each item to be that extra accessory as a reminder that ‘ You Are Not The Average Chaos ‘ so that you can get through your life without holding yourself back.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
TBH, I’m a very lowkey person that is still discovering everything GA has to offer below are a few places I’ve been to in 2019/2020 I like very chill environments , good music and lots of artwork. So places like old 4th ward , little five points, and state parks are my usual hang out places This year for 2020 i have had the pleasure of venturing out and trying new things like Korean BBQ. There’s a place in Duluth/ Roswell called Iron Age, its a good interactive restaurant that allows you to cook your food and still bond with your loved ones. I would recommend the lemon chicken. Jacks is a pretty cool pizza and wing spot located in the old 4th ward area, they have a good playlist with 2 arcade games and a outside patio that allows you to be free. If you’re into pizza and wings like myself I would also recommend blue moon pizza located in sandy springs. I usually order the flatwhich which is basically a folded pizza to make a sandwhich with a great mellow 90s alternative playlist. For those who hang out in Atlantic Station if you haven’t already check out Yard House, I went this year and i was impressed by the Philly sandwhich and service that I received. I’m really big on price and quantity and out of the many places I have eaten at I would say Cheddar’s in Mcdonough is my favorite. For the amount of food they give, the pricing is even better. My bf and I have the best dates there. If you’re boarderline vegan and like brunch , The Cafe Sunflower in Buckhead is a nice quaint spot to check out. The mimosa’s will have you giggling in no time. Majority of these places have been frequently visited spots by myself Here’s a list of popular places I plan to check out in 2021 : – Slutty Vegan ATL – Sugar Factory – Agave – Slim & Husky’s – Krab Queenz ATL – The Blaxican – Viva La Vegan ATL – OLG I am a strong Little 5 points advocate I could hang out in that area all day whether its shopping or chilling in the surrounding parks. The best day I ever had was riding Scooters around the Inman park area and seeing Atlanta from a completely different perspective. Since covid-19 hit I haven’t really had the opportunity to check out any social places , so its mostly been outdoor nature adventures for me. Sweetwater State Park is the most popular place because they offer boat rentals as well as like 5 miles of trails. If you want to view a good water fall and take photos, Roswell Mills is the place to go. . I’ve honestly never gone further than the bridge because the main entry to the water fall catches my attention one of these days Ill actually walk their trails. There is also a trail that leads to a hidden beach in the Lenox Mall area but sadly I can not remember the name. On Sunday’s for car people there’s a lot of Car meets on the north side. Most of them are early in the am so make sure you’re up early and got ya cars cleaned to ride out. Its like a JDM heaven. They’re usually held in mall parking lots or open spaces so Afterwards you can walk right into the mall or a nearby place to shop and eat. For the vendors/ attendees 4 corner studios and the Delowe Lofts are spaces to check out if you’re looking to host an event. If you haven’t checked out the High Museum then you should. They have various installations on many floors full of numerous styles of art and design. On certain nights they have interactive activities that you can partake in during your time visiting the museum. I mentioned the Old 4th ward area a lot but now a days its better known as the ‘ Beltline ‘ where you have access to many shops/ bakeries/ and activities like soccer and skateboarding. A very lowkey spot that i don’t think is very popular anymore is Fun Spot. It’s legit a ghost town now a days but if you want to feel like you bought out the place for the day then i recommend taking your spouse friends or families there. My favorite attraction is the pool bumper cars. I am not a 6 flags person so if you’re like me, fun spot is the way to go and afterwards you can hit the Pavillion and eat good. The La Parillia and Olive Garden in Fayetteville is just so good to me. But honestly I feel Atlanta has a lot to offer everyone you really just have to get out there and see it for yourself! Places I plan to visit in 2021 – Atlanta Botanical Gardens – Bonfire ATL – PF Street Racing – Atlanta Bubble Tent – Woodruff Park
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my life partner/ bestfriend Wolf without his support and his belief in me I don’t think I would have been able to get my brand off the ground. I also want to thank my homegirl Leeka in Colorado, I believe she owns at least one thing from every collection I have released. I would like to thank my lovely ambassadors Kai and Yhavid , they’re the faces of my brand that I’ve been looking for. I am also thankful and grateful for all the supporters who make it known that they support my brand and a hugeeeeeeee thank you to myself for never giving up on myself and trusting my ideas. I’d like to add shout outs to @Neku_san, @6norlax, @vacantworldwide, they helped tremendously with my graphic designs.
Right now I am currently reading ” Power Your Tribe ” – create resilient teams in turbulent times….. Its basically about learning yourself in order to make a great leader in your work place. Since I picked this book up I’ve been studying myself and changing the things that could hinder my success. Once I’ve mastered that I began to implement key things and the universe and God has been so rewarding to me. I suggest this book to any entrepreneur out there working to find their way in business.
