We had the good fortune of connecting with Satoya Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Satoya, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My Name is Satoya Monesha Hayes but am known by (Monesha) here in Atlanta. I was born in Fort Lauderdale fl, I moved to Rochester NY at the age of 8, during the same year I lost my father growing up in Rochester it was hard to express yourself everyone wants to be like each other and its barely people that want to stand out. It impacted my life because a creative person needs an atmosphere to grow and be impactful but I felt like Rochester was holding me back so I moved to Atlanta.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well I never really wanted to be in business, after high school I went right into college for Law, I found myself loving the profession but not having the time to work and also go to school i was forever tired and never making my classes on time. I started by selling Jewelry Accessories but found that alot of people wasn’t into that type of jewelry it became a waste of money in time. I kept working 9 to 5 jobs until I felt like the jobs were to much that I wasn’t finding time for myself or my family. So I took some time off from working and started a shoe business it had its up and downs but being from Rochester and not being popular or a person that people didn’t know it was hard to get a sale. I went into a deep depression and in that same year I was diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression and didn’t even know what I was going thru it was new to me. I isolated myself because of my failures and just hid aways from the world. I finally made a conscious decision to Move to Georgia but not Atlanta, Waycross GA my mother moved so I moved with her there. While being in that small town my mother lived next to a Library so I read books daily because I didn’t know anyone. The books that Changed my life were “African America Portrait of a People, How to Survive our Faster Future , Social Justice, knock Em dead Social Networking, and How to talk to Anyone , Anytime, Anywhere. Thru these books I was able to pick up the knowledge of how not only to build a Company but how to build a Successful one. I have learned how to Market and Sale to Anyone by reading these books and how to continue on my businesses and knowledge for generations to come and thats when my Umbrella Company came into play Mobeta LLC. I like to say the (Mob meaning is for [Mind.Ova.Body] which I had to learn to have peace with my body being a plus size woman. My company also stood for me giving myself a second chance to make it doing what I love again and in God’s will for my life. My middle name is “Monesha that’s were the Mo comes from in my company name, and Beta is the Second Letter in the Greek Alphabet giving me the name (Mobeta) = The Number 2 stands for New Beginnings and I told myself any company that I build under this brand will be a way to help others by providing services or helping in a way I can bring a community together. So I moved to Atlanta on my own for a fresh start and it was hard but I started by getting little jobs that could hold me over in a Room before getting an apartment I started at Chic Fila in the airport after that A server for Waffle house and Main Event as a server the Money wasn’t quite enough so I started doing Hair from a Small Room at a Friend’s house. I started getting better and more clientel so I moved to a salon booth. My first Salon here was terrible the owner Mocked my work and had her daughter join in and also tried to keep my equipment because she say I owed her money. I found a better paying job at a call center and eventually moved in my own apartment I wanted a home salon so bad but all the money I was making was for going to work or paying for rent and utilities the important things so I decided to go back to a salon. This salon basically used me for my money even though I only wanted to work on the weekends they lied and said I had to pay for a full weeks pay to get the keys because they will not be there on the weekends which they was there every weekend. After working for the salon they didn’t want me to work for myself, I couldn’t make my own schedule, and it took forever for me to receive my key so I quit there. I opened a salon out of my 1 bedroom apartment in my living room but didn’t have quite much space to really work although I had clients I had to really give it up because I moved my mother from NY to Atlanta and she stayed in my Apartment in the living Room. It was no space to do anything I got back into a depressed mode I knew I had to do something. After trying a Lace front on myself I figured it wasn’t for me. The lace glue made my edges very thin and I came to realize it’s not for a lot of girls and it takes too much time and money. On December 3rd 2020 I decided to create my own line of wigs (Moe Moe’s Clip On Collection) My wigs are reliable and chemical free. They are hand sewed and crochet by me. My line of wigs add a lasting hold and can be placed on and removed so easily. I have a Best friend by the name of destiny who had a Mohawk full of dread locs but always wanted to change up her look so I created the Clip on Mohawk piece that Hides the dreads underneath “no one could tell she had locs”. My line lasted so long I even started to make appearances at pop up shops displaying my them. After moving thank you God because of the sales from my wigs and me doing logos and flyers for customers I was able to move to a bigger apartment and even give my momma her own room she stayed down in my one bedroom apartment in my living room for a year and a half and she finally have her own. Unfortunately because the rent went up I had to stop self working and actually pick back up on a job which took so much time from me working on my own business. I took a leap of faith after being fired from my last job for reading a book and decided to start back up my home salon. I started putting ads out around Facebook and talking to people at grocery stores that I went an shopped at and eventually my small home salon is now running more clients then ever from, Loc Retwist, Crochet, Kids Braids , Ponytails and Much more i was able to go from a small salon chair to an actual salon chair that I repainted by hand. My salon creates an Athmospere of safe Energy and peace that when people enter my salon they say ” Its a Vibe” because they can finally breathe while getting beautiful and feel at peace while listening to their favorite tunes. I like to Talk to my customers because being a person with mental health and now being any advocate for those who suffer from it i remember what helped me and it was talking to someone that will truly listen. I’m grateful for every person that walk thru my home salon door because they bring great energy and lasting friendships. Now I am able to reopen Moe Moe’s clip on Collection and bring it into a bigger and brighter light. I am mostly excited about the journey that I came from and the Journey I am about to step foot on at this moment. This is only the beginning for Mobeta LLC I am taking on the Hair and Beauty industry with a Bang.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take my visitor on a hike at Sweetwater creek because we would all need to cleanse our energy to make sure our trip is pleasant. I would have a Drink at one of my favorite spots BQE Bar n Lounge spot or one of my new favorites to chill Graffiti. I would take them to see the Mr. Luther king Memorial and Museum, The Civil rights Museum on the Horse and Carriage ride around the City, The wild Life Safari. We would eat at the Sugar Factory or either waffle house there is also a delicious dinner called Martian’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my Path of life my Mentor has been GOD and my Mother Mattie Hayes. God Placed my Mother on this earth to give life to me and to guide me so that I can follow the path he has chosen for me to live in his will.
