We had the good fortune of connecting with Sathya Callender Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sathya, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business, Scars of Survival Inc and Scars of Survival Magazine helps the community by providing resources needed to assist families in becoming self sufficient after surviving domestic violence. We also have cultivated a safe space for survivors globally to share their stories of triumph and inspiration.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
How I got where I’m today is first by being obedient to God. Some might not understand what that means but basically when God shows that specific thing he wants you to do and you do it. Also being very eager to learn, ambitious and just having that goal getter mentality. It hasn’t been a easy journey but who said it would be. If things were that easy you wouldn’t appreciate it. I’ve made mistakes and learned from those mistakes. I’ve revamped my business as well to what makes sense business wise. You’ll learn on your journey that it’s ok to revamp, the mistakes are ok because that’s how you learn, but don’t let this distract you and don’t give up. Keep what works and what doesn’t get rid of it. Your always going to learn so he willing to do so. It’s ok to hear a no because something greater will be for you, be patient and have faith the size of a mustard seed. I’m the Global Voice of Domestic Violence. The first in the world to launch a publication catered to the DV community so that would surely make me a history maker. I’m very passionate about domestic violence and will continue to walk in my purpose and do as God guided me to do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting for a week as they have before, this is what the week would look like. We would visit a few restaurants, Atlanta has plenty. Probably my favorite which is pizza and her favorite. I always like to take family and friends to Helen, Ga which is in the mountains. It’s so beautiful and the ride is peaceful. Visiting the Martin Luther King Center would be a MUST. Maybe horseback riding, which by the way is super fun. I would also let my friend give ideas or share places or things they wanted to do and that would be done also.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will have to give a huge shout out to my amazing husband Mr. Wilson! I’m giving my husband a shout out and he’s much deserving because he’s been there through the trails and tribulations, never giving up or walking away but joining forces with me as a husband and wife should to get through those trying times. He motivates me, encourages me, prays with me and for me. If I’m feeling blah he helps to take that feeling away. I’m so grateful to God for him as I know he’s grateful to God for me.
