We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Mootz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind success of my music/brand is definitely confidence. In order to make the best possible product I have to truly believe in what I am doing and putting out there and it’s ability to be enjoyed by my an audience. Without confidence, I don’t think I would ever invest in myself or my music the way that I need to in order to succeed. The best things I’ve done in my career have started with small leaps of faith based off of excitement that I’ve gotten from believing in the power of my work, my craft, and myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Music is a blend of things that make me who I am, and things that I admire about other musicians and their work. I always try to keep things original and unique in my own little way. Asking myself if I actually WANT to do something rather than doing it because I feel like I need to/should has been a break thru in the production of my brand/music. After I have faced many challenges and accounts of me feeling like I need to look a certain way, sound a certain way, etc. in order to impress others I have found that staying true to some core values is super important in my journey as well. I’ve been through many trials and tribulations involving know it all producers, venue managers, singing TV shows, controlling band members, etc. I could tell stories for days but ultimately they’ve all brought me to where I am now and to a place of understanding the underlying themes of this career and what is actually important for my success and personal happiness. Staying true to yourself is so important and having the time in your life to genuinely reflect on the things you are doing, saying and putting out into the world is crucial. I’d like the world to know that every artist has fought for their place to be able to do what they love. An Artist’s success is not determined by fame and fortune. We are all just trying to do what we love for the rest of our lives and support ourselves along the way!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Athens are the 40 Watt (music venue), and GA Theater (Music venue) for entertainment. I really enjoy Mama’s Boy Breakfast and Taqueria Tsunami for a lunch/dinner spot. Walker’s Pub is my favorite place to go for drinks or coffee… The atmosphere is super cozy and laid back!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my parents for always having my back when things get hard and seeing the beauty in my music. Also, shoutout to all the musicians I have worked with thus far that has made each small idea come to life and added to the experience of being indie artist and given me a sense of community that I wouldn’t trade for anything!
