We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Chambers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Perseverance is hands-down the most important factor behind my success. If you follow me on social media, I promise that you only see the highlight reel. Like so many of us, I only post when I (FINALLY!) reach my goal or get a win. What you do not see is the hours, weeks, months, years, even DECADES of hard work it took to get another check-mark in that win column.

I have encountered so many obstacles along the way. Financial issues, physical health issues, mental health issues, family crises, unexpected career setbacks, work-life-family-spouse balance struggles, you name it. I have had more reasons to quit and give up than I have had to keep going, but I remained dedicated and steadfast no matter how hard the road became. I was stronger than all of my excuses and I continue to relentlessly remain dedicated to fulfilling my dreams.

We all experience set backs in life. I am a firm believer that your response to any situation is your responsibility and yours alone. And how you respond is your choice to make and your response will determine your future. I learned early on when setting out to do great things, the only parts of my journey I have control over are my attitude and my effort. I realized if I could keep both of those in line with my goals, I would be unstoppable. So I focused on making sure my attitude did not sour and that my effort never lacked. Sure I had days where my motivation was nonexistent, or days where it truly felt like the world was conspiring against me. I have had weeks where bad news poured in like a flash flood and it seemed like my only option was to drown. And that is exactly where perseverance is what matters. Without perseverance, I would have drowned a thousand times and I would have a long list of amazing life experiences I never got to have.

I wake up each morning and read through a list of inspirational quotes and affirmations, and on the hard days, this is my go-to:
This is the part where you find out who you are.

It is in the most difficult times our true self is revealed. I would not be a successful attorney, a wife of 18 years, a mother of two amazing child actors, or Mrs. Georgia American 2021 without digging deep and finding within me the strength to keep going. Life is not without struggles, but life is also not permanent. You have choices, and if you make the right ones, you will grow, you will change, and you will find the power within you to keep going no matter how hard it gets.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a female dominating in a traditionally male-heavy industry. I am an attorney whose practice focuses specifically on defending architects and engineers in construction-related matters. I went to Georgia Tech for my undergraduate degree at a time when the male to female ratio was 8 to 1, and I still graduated summa cum laude. I went on to law school, and despite the grueling schedule of working a full time job while attending law school, was able to persevere and graduate summa cum laude with a rank of #6 in my class. I even took the bar exam only 6 weeks after giving birth to our first child!!

I have done all of this without sacrificing the other more creative and feminine parts of me. I am a firm believer that women today can be multi-faceted and we do not have to choose between being a mother or having a career, or between being feminine versus being taken seriously as an intellectual. This is why I am so incredibly proud to be Mrs. Georgia American 2021 because I feel I am now “walking my talk” and showing the world and women that you can have many types of dreams and they can ALL come true, so stop letting society and the world tell you that you have to fit in a certain mold to be successful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our family lives in Crabapple, Georgia which is right in the heart of equestrian country. It is absolutely beautiful here, and we are nestled along the Chattahoochee River which we all love, so our first stop would be to either go hiking along the Chattahoochee or shooting the ‘Hooch if the weather was nice! From there, I’d saddle everyone up and take us on a horse-back trail ride so we can continue to enjoy the outdoors and beautiful Georgia landscape.

One of the coolest things my husband and I have ever done is take a helicopter tour of Atlanta and then have the tour end on top of the W downtown so we could go out to eat at our favorite steak place Rathbun’s afterward, so if my friend is not afraid of heights, I would add this adventure to our to-do list!

Our family are also huge soccer fans, so an Atlanta United soccer game is a must-do at the Mercedes Benz stadium.

We love to support local small businesses, so to wrap up the weekend, I’d have us brunch The Southern Porch in Alpharetta and then head to Four Fat Cows for the most amazing and gigantic home-made ice cream cones! Our kids could then wander across the street and play in the field and splash pad in downtown Alpharetta while we enjoyed some day-drinks on the lawn.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Chris Chambers! We have been together 18 years and that has not been without his unconditional love and support. Never once has he told me a dream of mine was too big, or impossible, or unrealistic, or unattainable. His response every single time I said I had something I wanted to achieve and accomplish was “Go for it, you’ll be great!” Never once has he hesitated and he always has been and continues to be my biggest cheerleader. He has believed in me even when I did not believe in me, and he always encourages me.
