We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara ‘Saray” Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara ‘Saray”, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The brand, SaraSaray was originally started in 2015 because I wanted to help women build their confidence and self-esteem. I created a blog and started sharing tips and articles for women, specifically, plus-size women who may not have realized their value and worth. As a young girl coming up and having my aunt be that person for me, I knew there were other young girls and women that need that same guidance and person as well. From there, the brand grew and I started being invited to workshops, teaching classes, hosting events and my last venture was releasing my self-published book, “The Journal and Planner of Expectancy.” With my jewelry, I would always purchase stackable bracelets. Most times, they would be just right or slightly snug. Once I realized I could make them, and customize my own, I picked it up as a hobby. Then I started finding charms that fit my personality and style. Ultimately, that was the birth of my jewelry business. I practiced my craft and launched in 2019.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
SaraSaray is the brand and life of the party! As the author, SaraSaray, The Journal & Planner of Expectancy is a planner and journal with “DIY” calendars, goal setting checklist with an action plan, journal prompts, positive affirmations and prayer list. This is just the workbook you need to help you reach your goals, meet your expectations, and tap into your greatness while writing out your intellectual thoughts, to help you fulfill your purpose. SaraSaray the emcee, it is known that any event that I host, I am bringing the energy, excitement and positive vibes. Whether it is a wedding, birthday party, corporate event, festival or program, you will defintely have a great time with me as your emcee. I am also the owner of Sate’s Treasures where we make custom beaded creations from bracelets, pens and wine stoppers. Has is been easy? No! I juggle a lot of hats. While running my businesses, being a single mom, I still have a 9-5 career in higher education. It certainly requires a lot of time managment, dedication and committement. I still am overcoming challenges. However, the key to overcoming them is persistency. I have learned and still learning, how to get out of my own way. Sometimes, I still get fearful of the “what-if’s”. I’m human, right? However, I have to push through those fears to reach the beautiful outcome. One thing I want people to know is that you have to treat your brand like you child. Birth your ideas, nurture them through your actions and watch them grow beautifully into more than you could ever imagine! The subtitle on my books says; “It doesn’t matter when you start, just start.” God didn’t give you the idea and vision for you not to execute the action plan.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, if my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, we would certainly get the heck out of Swainsboro! Where I reside is more of a retirement town and there is not anything for people in my age range and younger to do. My usual weekend nights when I am in town consist of margaritas at my favorite hangout spot, El Valle, one of the local mexican resturants. For a weeklong visit with the bestie though, we would kick if off with margaritas and girls night at home. By day 2, we are hitting the road traveling! I am about 90 miles from Savannah so we would go explore the city, enjoy Riverstreet, sightsee and have fun. There is so much to do there. We would problably hit up Augusta to do some shopping, also. They have a very nice venue called Taste Wine Room which I enjoy visiting. The ambience is amazing. We would probably wrap the week up back home with a cookout and weekend kickback at home. Nothing too extravagant at all!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The philosophy of my life comes from Proverbs 3:5-6. God first and foremost recieves all of the credit. My daughter, mother, siblings, close girlfriends & mentors deserve all of the recognition. I know it seems like a lot, but each one of them played a role into who and where I am today. My daughter is my driving force as I want to show her to never give up on her dreams and she can accomplish whatever it is she sets forth to do. My mother is my rock! She is my support, my strength, my prayer warrior, my everything! She has taught me all I know, and I am nothing without her. My siblings, they offer me so much encouragment and listen to my off the wall ideas; all while giving me feedback and encouragment. My close girlfriends, those that travel the roads with me, hold me accountable, support me in all that I do, yet call me out in my wrongs. They just always show up and always there. It’s great to have girlfriends that are more like sisters to count on, always. My mentors, especially my Aunt Erma that is more like my second mama. All of us need an unbias decision, structure, guidance and accountability. All of my mentors, have provided great blue prints and advice to help me along in not only my career and businesses, but my personal life as well.
