We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Higdon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been interested in running my own business, and being able to work for myself. I have also been interested in philanthropy, and wish I could do more to help people. So I started my business selling clothes online, and at least 10% of all profits would go to charity. At the beginning of Covid we had a special line, where 100% of the profits went to local food banks. Though for me marketing was an issue, so I started focusing on using Social Media to build my brand, however the brand morphed into me being more of a public profile, and the store changed more into a merch store for my Podcast. Where currently we are not selling any products as we put more resources into growing our social media presence.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my career as a Logistics Officer in the Army where I served for Seven and a half years, including one deployment to Afghanistan. There I earned a Bronze Star among other awards and badges. In 2017 I got out and moved to Atlanta to start the next chapter in my life working in corporate America. Where in October of 2018, I founded an LLC called Steubens Ltd. I started the company as a side project to help raise money for charities via online retail; with profits going toward those in need. In March of 2020 I was frustrated at the direction I was seeing in the cultural and political climates, so I launched my podcast TRANSform To Freedom. Which has now led me to public speaking, where I will be a speaker at the FreedomFest Conference in Las Vegas this July. To be associated with the caliber of speakers at that event is a dream come true. It hasn’t always been easy; it’s still not. My brand is still in its infancy, and the work never stops to get sponsors and get more people watching. My optimism is what gets me through the tough times. I believe I’m on the right path, my mission is good, and I am continuously seeing growth. I have learned that when you get knocked down, the next opportunity is right around the corner.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are a few places I always take people who come to visit. First is the Battery, go walk around and have dinner at one of the many great places over there, maybe a game when the Braves are in town. Then I like to take them to Ponce City Market to walk the Beltline. Last of the essentials though is to get that picture on the Jackson Street Bridge. After those are out of the way I take them and show them all the unique areas around town, checking out some of the best restaurants like Brunch at South City Kitchen or BBQ at Heirloom Market. then, I would do one of the Beer bus tours to check out the many breweries in the city. To round it out we would enjoy some nightlife in Midtown, or a rave at Iris.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been multiple friends who have helped me along the way. First is Arielle Scarcella, She is a popular YouTuber that I became friends with over the year. She encouraged me to speak out, to start at YouTube Channel, and has featured me on her channel a number of times. She has always been my go to when asking for advice on how to grow in the industry. Next is former Presidential Candidate and Radio host Austin Petersen. Austin is the first person to reach out to interview me on his radio show, where I have since become a regular guest. He is also the person who got me my largest interview on The BlazeTVs Slightly Offensive which helped to jumpstart my popularity. Lastly is Siraj Hashmi. He is a former writer at the Washington Post, who now works at the video platform Rumble. His help promoting my content, and mentorship has helped me grow my audience across platforms, to engage with a larger audience, and has connected me with multiple large creators too collaborate with.
