We had the good fortune of connecting with Sapphire Haughton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sapphire, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?

I am a Private Chef and Consultant. My catering company is called Take A Bite LLC. However, I use my passion of cooking to give back to those less fortunate. A year ago, I started a movement called “Love Thy Homie.” I feed the homeless and people in shelters. To date, we have had four events in Atlanta, one in Charlotte, and one in Nashville. Our goal is to give back at a time when people need it the most. Thus, the majority of our events fall on major holidays (such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter etc.).
My hope is to be the change and spread love and light during the holidays. Our first few events, we took to the streets of Atlanta, and fed the “homies” we encountered; We fed people under bridges, living in tents and cardboard boxes. I really wanted to feed women and children in shelters. For my Easter event, I went to Charlotte, and my team and I fed families at The Harvest Center. This year for Christmas, we went to Nashville, and fed the women and children at the YWCA domestic violence shelter. Our most recent event, was for Easter of this year, at Making A Way Housing in Atlanta. I grew up in a home where I witnessed domestic violence regularly. I have been homeless and suffered with mental depression and anxiety. I wanted my business to positively impact my community. I wanted it to be a beacon of light for the world. I use my gift to help as many people as I can. All our meals are created with organic and fresh ingredients. We also have vegetarian options. At every event, we give out handmade cards from the girls of Honey Bloom Academy. Honey Bloom Academy is an all-girl life experience academy, and one of my clients for my consulting group: Take A Bite Consulting Group.
I want to ensure when I leave this world, I helped as many people as I could. I want to touch every state, and as many people as possible. Right now, we are starting with the states I have previously lived in (GA, NC, TN, LA, NY).  Hopefully within the next couple years, I can get to New York (where I am from), and Louisiana (where I went to college).
My business is all about loving people, and giving them joy and good food. We spread love through my favorite thing in the world: cooking.
Take A Bite Consulting Group is also about helping people. For a year, I helped Black business for free. I helped them form, build, and maintain their businesses. We offered business advice and helped create structure such as policies and training courses within businesses. I wanted to do something positive within the Black community; I wanted to play a role in building wealth and longevity; that is my entire reasoning behind my consulting group. Both my businesses are for the people, and will hopefully leave a lasting impression on the community and world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

As I stated previously, I am a Private Chef and Consultant. Both of my businesses revolve around helping people. I worked in the hospitality field for most of my life. I was in guest relations, hotel management, HR, and sales (just to name a few). My corporate background has always correlated with working directly with others. Thus, it only made sense for me to start Take A Bite Consulting Group in 2020. In addition, I wanted to try to counteract all the racism and death the Black community was facing. My consulting group was my way of coping and dealing with all the murders ans police brutality that took place. (George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and many more) In December of 2021, I started charging for my services. I wanted to help Black, small businesses, and I know money can be a factor when you’re just starting. I helped numerous clients form their LLCs, open bank accounts, assisted with starting their social media, and answered operational questions. A few of my first clients are (on instagram) @brianajonails, @perfectlyalignedcreationsllc, and @honeybloomacademy. I also assisted small businesses with forming their policies, training their team on guest/employee issue resolution, and management. I believe what sets me a part from others is that I have such a wide array of knowledge due to my intricate corporate career.
Once covid hit in 2020, I lost my job as a Category Manager at The Dump Furniture Outlet in Atlanta. I had to figure out what my next move was. I decided to dedicate all my time to my food business. I was scared to do it. I formed Take A Bite LLC in 2019, and I did a few events here and there. However, I was scared of failure, and I did not want to take the leap. Covid forced me to do so. Running two businesses is fairly easy for me, considering I had to learn how to multitask and be efficient in my previous career. Everyone tried to sway me from offering my consulting and chef services free of charge. Many people felt as if I should get sponsors to do my Love Thy Homie events. Though, I would not decline if someone wanted to sponsor and help with the movement, I am feeding the less fortunate because it is what I feel is right. I want to help people, and if I have to do that on my own, then so be it. Thankfully, I always have donors and volunteers to help me with the events. As far as my consulting group, I gave people a year to utilize my services for free. Most people who I encountered did not even know what a consultant did. They did not realize they needed my help until I explained my services. To date, I currently have 3 paying, contracted clients. I learned that you have to do what feels right for you. You can listen to people, and take heed. However, ultimately you must follow your mind and heart.

I want the world to know and understand why we do this. I want them to be kind and give back in anyway they can. I want to set an example, so the world can see how easy it is to do the right thing and be the change.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to all my friends and family who have selflessly contributed to my Love Thy Homie movement. At every event, my loved ones volunteer their time or donate. I could not do this without them. I could not do this alone. I appreciate everyone who has helped me give back in some way. In addition, I would like to give thanks to the shelters who have allowed me and my team to come in and feed their residents. I would also like to thank one of my consulting clients: Perfectly Aligned Creations LLC for always creating custom shirts and items, not only for my Love Thy Homie events, but also for my consulting needs. Any custom items you see pictured in this article were created by them. Thank you to my all my clients who trust my expertise and guidance. My consulting group is a success because of all of you.
