We had the good fortune of connecting with Saphfire Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Saphfire, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business helps my community by bringing awareness to overall health. The number one killer in the black community is heart related diseases caused by high blood pressure and levels of cholesterol. All of which can be prevented.

As a personal trainer, I train both men and women habits that’ll change their entire lifestyle. We all say we want to be there for our loved ones, but how can we do that if don’t take care of ourselves first? Being fitness isn’t only about aesthetics. It promotes longevity and overall health benefits. You’ll look better, feel better, perform better and the list goes on!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Starting my own business was actually off impulse. I had a 9-5 while I was still training very few people on the side. After about 2 1/2 years there, I was so miserable that I quit in the middle of the week and since then, the rest is history! I bet on myself and won 10 fold!

However I wouldn’t recommend that for anyone else haha. I got lucky because I already had my foot in the door and was able to branch off from there. But I didn’t initially have a plan or even a set structure. I just knew what I wanted and figured out a way to obtain it.

I had to overcome every obstacle imaginable in my field. From having almost 0 clientele, getting injured, lack of finances, etc.

Going into business for yourself is not easy, let alone an overnight process. It takes time, FAILURE, perseverance, hard work, and a ton of dedication.

My biggest take away has been patience. I used to think that if I did something, I was supposed to see the results right away but that’s not how reality works. It takes time to see the fruits of your labor.

I have a sad back story too. But truth is, nobody cares. You can’t let your past or negative situations hold you back. More so, you should use them to drive you forward and keep pushing no matter what!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I live in NYC, there’s an abundance of places you can visit. One of my favorite spots is Cantina Rooftop which is a Mexican restaurant. The food, drinks and aura are amazing and it’s just so much fun. Every time I went there was a live DJ and the staff made everyday feel like a celebration.

I’d also suggest RH Rooftop. It has such a classy and upscale vibe so if you’re looking a nice place to have dinner, I’d definitely recommend them.

Lastly, The Press Lounge is my go-to cocktail lounge. Their drink menu changes every so often but they never disappoint. And the views! One side is overlooking the Hudson River and the other overlooks Times Square. What more could you ask for!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All my success and glory goes to my father. Unfortunately, he passed in 2018 but to this day, I still carry on every lesson he’s ever taught me. In life, he was so proud of every little accomplishment I made which taught me to appreciate the small wins as well as the big ones. He made sure that I was always taken care of and showed me unconditional love no matter what.

After losing him, I turn my pain into strength and kept pushing forward because I know he’s still watching over me and all I want to do is continue to make him proud.
