We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandra Plenty DeMoss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Wine and houseplants spark conversation and I love to hear people’s stories. This unique independent wine and plant shop was born out of the quarantine period. Our furniture store was closed by requirement and I missed talking with people. So Plenty Of Vino was created. An essential business. Again, I get to uplift customers when sad, motivate them when challenged and educate them about our offerings. I have missed a few sales talking so much but I just don’t meet strangers and people keep sharing and I share too.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Every day I teach myself something new about wine and plants so I can share with others. I am directing every aspect of the business from the product mix to the sales team to the aesthetics. Every day I seek ways to bring awareness to the store, help people network and grow the brand.

The excitement that customers exhibit when entering the store further motivates me to continuously develop new ways to educate them about wine and houseplants. The combination is a unique paring of two things that exploded during quarantine that helped people get through uncertain times. I now drive people to patronize a local shop born out of uncertainty that serves as a reminder to love life and celebrate daily. Observe the new leaves on a plant unfurling and have hope for the future to see more leaves. Raise a glass to the close of another day at home or with friends and cheers to tomorrow. These are the sentiments that are conveyed at Plenty Of Vino to our patrons. This is what we will amplify as the grand prize recipient.

There will likely not be another quarantine during our lifetime but the importance of getting together, family, friends and hope for tomorrow is underlined. Everyday we strive at Plenty Of Vino to focus on happy. Focus on joy. Focus on a positive outlook for tomorrow.

We are located between two major retail shopping stores and when shoppers stop when going from one store to the other and pop into our store, they are amazed and surprised. One of the most common questions is whether or not we are a chain. Wow…we seem like a chain? What a compliment for a single location, non-franchise small shop.

The endorphins we help release and our good vibes could be a form of community service to promote improved mental health and We also give back to our community by supporting the local schools fundraisers and silent auctions.

Plant parents and wine lovers converge at Plenty Of Vino where we specialize in things to make you smile.

We are motived each day to bring a smile to as many faces as possible as we introduce them to the next addition to their wine or plant collection.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start our trip with a visit to Plenty Of Vino because it would be fun to start with some thing, aesthetically pleasing and fun buying a bottle of wine. I would continue the journey at Yo Mamas restaurant downtown Birmingham and then we would go shopping at Bridge and Root men’s store downtown Birmingham. Then we would visit the Pizitz food court. We’d spend some time in Hoover Alabama at Tortugas pizza and then we would round out the week at the Bohemian Hotel in Mountainbrook Alabama.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Both of my grandmothers grew up during a time when they had to forgo education to care for their family. They grew up during a time when they had to drink out of a special water fountain, and they grew up during a time when they had to except being miss treated because of the color of their skin. my father’s mother taught herself and learned from her children everything that she could. Her sixth grade education, wise, never a hindrance. You wouldn’t know it by the command she had for the English language in addition to the most beautiful penmanship only boosted by teachers of her time. She always stressed to me that I should be the best at whatever it was I was doing . If I were sweeping the floor, I needed to be the best floor sweeper if I were washing the dishes I needed to be the best dishwasher, and in addition to all of that I should always reach for the stars so that if I didn’t quite make it, I would land on the moon. The encouragement that I received from my grandmother and my other grandparents and my parents is the reason why I am a successful entrepreneur today . I feel like I represent all of what they couldn’t do so I strive daily to be the best representative that would make my grandparents extremely proud.
