We had the good fortune of connecting with Samkeisha Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samkeisha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

Taking risks goes hand in hand with individual growth.
I say this because if individuals play safe all the time and stay comfortable, they will never know their full potential and what great things they can accomplish. Taking risks is why I am an upcoming braider/business owner today. The Department of Education employed me for ten years. During that time, I obtained my undergraduate degree in psychology and started my master’s program in social work. The Pandemic came around, and it forced the world to quarantine. During quarantine I took sometime out to reflect on what I wanted to achieve in my life. I decided to return to my real passion and accomplish my first goal as a 17-year-old girl, which was to become a braider and salon owner. So even with fear, I took a leap of faith and decided to leave my job and build my business. Quitting my job to start building my business was not an easy decision, but looking at how far I have come, it was a decision that was worth the risk. I’m finally walking in my purpose, and it feels so good!

What should our readers know about your business?
KStylesByKeisha is a brand that builds confidence.
My business provides not only a braiding service but an experience. Customer service is my number one priority. When a customer feels good, I feel even better. I am proud of how far I have come because my baby is growing, and with god first, this is just the beginning for KStylesByKeisha. I’m excited to see my business grow. Getting to where I am today as a business owner was challenging because I’m originally from Brooklyn, NY, and I relocated to Atlanta, GA, only a year ago. So for me, not being in my original hometown, it’s been difficult getting my name out there to the public, but I continue to pray and show up for myself daily to get KStylesByKeisha’s name out there. I learned that you must trust the process when building a business. I want the world, especially mothers, to know that it’s always possible to work towards accomplishing your dream even while raising children. I will continue to use my natural talent to make my clients feel their best!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to Toast on Lenox for brunch because the food is so good!

I would take them to Capital Grille for a fancy dinner.

And to Lenox Mall for some shopping

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

First, I want to thank god for making this possible
Second, My partner and children for being my top supporters and motivation.
Last but not least, I want to thank the other half of my support system, my mom, brothers, best friends, sister, and extended family. Thank you for supporting my vision and believing in me.
