We had the good fortune of connecting with Samirra Braswell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samirra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
One of my main thoughts was I knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. My passion for make-up was strong so I proceeded, and let me just say the best thing I ever did.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I do make-up, my main goal is just to enhance the beauty that is already there. I’m so proud how far I have come, being a self- taught make-up artist there is this thing called trial and error. Yes, in the beginning there were many errors, but I am glad I stayed committed. I would practice frequently to perfect my craft, and remembering good things takes time. Lastly, Uppishbeat is all about beauty from within. When I created this brand, I wanted something that represented who I was. And that’ is being beautiful on the inside. That is why I tell each client I am enhancing the beauty that is already there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would like to thank God. My family is one of my biggest blessings. Besides being an makeup-artist I am also a certified model and actress, and a full-time college student. I am studying Psychology/minoring in human sciences, at Jacksonville State University. My sister Kaliyah handles all of my appointments and is my muse when I am trying a new make-up look. My mom and dad are always investing in my business and are always encouraging me to be my best.
