We had the good fortune of connecting with Samirah Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samirah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor that contributes to my brand is keeping hood energy. All my products are hand made and I only make my products when I’m in a positive mindset so that I can transfer that energy into my products. I believe the second part of my brand being successful is that all the products are vegan or organic. My products are meant to be healing as well as pleasing to the skin. Lastly my brand is successful because every post and or picture is catered to my beautiful black people.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been a healer in some form and as I grew older it took the form of mentally healing. Thus, I became a marriage and family therapist. I currently work under my business and contract for various agencies doing psychological evaluations, assessments, and some program development. My road has not been easy especially as an entrepreneur. I have had to contract with at least 6 agencies at times to ensure that i can afford my blessings. Also many counselors and therapist do not choose this profession for the money. You truly have to have a love for people. So we do not get paid a ton of money like many other professions. The other challenge I have been facing is finishing up in school as my soon to be new title will be Dr. Muhammad. As I stated I’m a healer and thus I pursued a Doctorate in ministry to aid people in healing spiritually. I love learning and with my degree I’m going to try to help as many people in my community as possible. I am know utilizing my dissertation to aid single black fathers in Atlanta. I want to know how we can best serve their needs as a father. I would say throughout my life I have learned that support is imminent for growth. Support has gotten me though many tough situations whether it’s school, work, business endeavors, and building relationships. I just want to make sure our community has the support they need as well and that includes black single fathers as well. As a healer I created crowned complexion to aid my people in healing physically. Many of us don’t know that several well known brands have ingredients that are detrimental to our health as they have cancer causing ingredients. My brand is all about feeling good but not at a price that is going to affect their health or future.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am originally from California so I have several friends that come visit. In regard to food I’m a conscious eater so I would take them to places that also cater do vegan or vegetarian diets. If I wanted to introduce them to a vegan dish that they wouldn’t be able to tell it’s vegan my first stop would be Go Vegan grill. They have amazing dishes but the wait might take you out. I would love for them to try Tassili’s it’s raw vegan but I never had a meat eater say they didn’t enjoy it. I have a few brunch spots I enjoy such as Atlanta breakfast club, thumps up, another broken egg, Tupelo honey cafe, the flying biscuit, R. Thomas, and cultivate foods. In terms of areas they have to hit up Ponce city market and try King of Pops, hang out in Virginia highlands and dine at Del bar and check out highland cigar bar or little spirits. I would take them to my fave restaurant in east Atlanta village and get a really good margarita at EAV Thai. Then we would swing by little five points and visit Sevananda and cultural accents. Colony square has amazing spots and then we could hang out on crescent ave or the high museum. If it’s warm out we can do an outing at piedmont park or go look at flowers at the botanical gardens. I love nature and hiking so I could take them out the city and go to Callaway gardens, kayak at lake Allston’s, or hike and catch a waterfall at Cloudland canyon. If we partying of course you have Edgewood, buckhead, midtown, downtown Decatur, and even the battery. I honestly don’t think a week is enough time because I would also love to take them to Savannah and show them what New Orleans was based off of.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It definitely took a village to support and nurture my current business venture. I would love to first shout-out the late great Ms. Lavern. She was our healer or shaman if you will. She mentored me at one point and helped me to further understand how to use essential oils for healing. May she Rest In Peace. I would love to also shout out Ms. Sue, who is the owner of this wholistic store I shop at. She has given me books on healing and uplifts my spirit each time I come in. I want to most importantly shout out Malachi my silent partner. He has been pivotal in helping me set up my business, website, product pictures, you name it. I truly don’t believe I wouldn’t have made it this far without his support. He is my number one fan and he makes me feel like I’m one of the MJ’s.
