We had the good fortune of connecting with Samer Alkaabi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samer, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
drawing has always been my escape for as long as I can remember, I always felt the need to express my emotions and thoughts on that random blank piece of paper. as I got older, I started drawing more of the things that interest me, like video games, anime, movies and portraits of people close to me, even if none of it was good at that time.

All of that died down a bit during the blur that is high school, I don’t remember doing much, if at all, of the thing that now I know I loved the most, until I got into architectural school, where I chose a profession that combined my love for art (which I later found out that it really wasn’t that artistic) and my parents’ desire for me to get into a “real” major (yep.)
I found myself rediscovering my love for art while seeing it all in a new perspective, where design started to play a big part of it and it wasn’t just drawing and portraits and during my last years I grew more interested in graphic design, which was my gateway for getting into digital art and doing what I love the most, creating art for the things that interest me, but better this time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I mainly create pop culture art, I love creating promotional and tribute art for all sorts of relevant media.

I always strive to create a unique approach to the subject, whether its by an interesting composition, an emotional scene or use hidden clues and easter eggs.
I tend to create art that appears more as colorful and clean/polished, I do not rely on textures that often and if I do it’s usually very subtle.

I still have a long way to go in this business, I believe I’m only just beginning, I’m still learning how to navigate this field and how to make good connections with possible collaborators, and I am very excited about what’s to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a very indoorsy person, especially in my hometown where I’d regret ever going out, I’d definitely suggest staying indoor, cooking delicious food, drinking good wine, maybe play a few games or chill with the pets and just have some quality fun time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
a big shoutout to the poster art community, every single artist, agency and platform, i’ve met some of the most amazing artists and supporters in this community and I’m grateful to be a part of it.
