We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Worgee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Habits that I feel like helped me succeed with my business are being consistent, allowing room for growth, investing in my craft, and showing so much passion for my work. As a Makeup Artist, there are so many new trends and makeup looks that we are consistently being introduced to within the Beauty Industry. Therefore, it’s important to stay on top of the game and be consistent on social media. Social media is key within the Beauty Industry. How you market yourself and consistently putting content out there is how people will really get to find out about your business. It’s also important to invest in your craft and allow yourself to grow. Don’t rush your journey at all. Remember, everyone’s timing is different, and you shouldn’t compare yourself to others. You only get better when you put in the effort into your work and have love for your craft. That’s the key to growing your clientele and making your business succeed.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My passion for makeup started at the age of 14. I began by playing in my mom’s makeup and stealing any products of hers that I could get my hands on. When I was able to get my first job at 15, I used that money to build my makeup kit. I watched YouTube tutorials and practiced with myself and my friends. Eventually, I established my makeup business at 16. I’m most proud of the growth of my work. Of course, everyone has to start somewhere, and I came a long way. Some people lose patience when it comes to doing makeup because it can be very tedious. However, I have always been intrigued and fascinated with the art of makeup. I consistently applied pressure on myself. I am my most prominent critic. I always ask myself, “What can I do to improve this makeup look, or how could I have used the products differently?”. I would then apply these self-notes to the next client. I got to where I am today business-wise by investing in my craft and allowing room for me to grow. If you have the mindset that you’re the best and your work is too good, you will not get far in this industry. Even though I’m self-taught, I still take necessary measures to stay updated with current trends within the beauty world. I was learning from others who are more advanced than you are a huge key, as well. Take classes, buy new products, invest in your tools, create and learn new techniques, stay on top of recent trends, promote and market your brand, etc. It was not easy at all to get to where I am today. A lot of trial and error along the way, which is excellent! I learned from my mistakes and critiqued myself as an Artist. That’s how I overcame my challenges. Every time a new face sits in my chair, I face a new challenge. Learning different skin complexions, skin types, facial structures, etc., does not happen overnight. It’s essential to study and understand your clientele (especially if you have a specific target audience) and develop techniques that can take your artistry to the next level. Lastly, customer service is a significant success factor. If you cannot provide good customer service, this is a way to lose clientele. You always want to be professional and create a luxury experience when your clients enter your establishment. I like the world to know that Glam Beats By Sam is just the beginning. I’ve been in the Beauty world for three years, going on 4, and I have so many goals that I want to accomplish soon. I am nowhere near where I want to be. My journey is still growing and expanding. I want everyone to remember my face and my business. I will work with the big names in the industry. Will work with your favorite influencer. I will build a successful brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My idea of fun is eating out! I’m such a foodie, and I love trying out new food places. I always go to restaurants in the city because there’s such great variety of cuisines. TikTok is definitely my go-to if you want to create a fun itinerary (hashtags help A LOT). Also, I’m always down for an adventure. I enjoy going to entertainment spots, such as arcade, bowling, golfing, go-karting, lounge spots with good music, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my supportive family, friends, and clients. A special shoutout to my family (my mom – Bernice, sister – Louise, and brother – Foster) because they were the ones who gave me the push and drive to take my makeup business serious. Without them and their loving support, I wouldn’t be here now. My brother, Foster, is the one who constructed my whole Glam Room. We completed the project together within one week, and I’m so grateful for him. Lastly, a special shoutout to all my clients because they are the reason for Glam Beats By Sam. To the clients from the very beginning to the new faces now, thank you! I love and appreciate each and everyone one of you.
