We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, why did you pursue a creative career?
The reason I pursued an artistic career was, and is to break away from reality and be more social. I’m a pretty shy person, and like many women confidence has always been a struggle. Photography became my way of speaking out and pushing me to be more outgoing. It’s not just about expressing myself; it’s taught me how to communicate better and connect with people every day. In this field, you’ve got to pass on confidence to your clients, and that starts with having it yourself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started this photography business about 2 and a half years ago. I hesitated so much because I realized how saturated this field was and doing more research showed me that being an artist and reaching success is quite tough. At that time I was working in a mushroom farm all day getting paid $8hr. I was exhausted, came home with a fever most of the time due to the mushrooms spores and a bad back pain. I needed to quit that job for the sake of my health so I started doing mini sessions during Christmas. They took off! My work stood out due to my editing and photo manipulation. That was and currently is what has set me apart from others. I applied all those hours spent learning photoshop to my pictures and let people know that a photo doesn’t have to end after the “CLICK”. Editing can give your images a new view, new meaning and much more magic. I became the go to maternity photographer for alot of women. They trust me with such a delicate moment in their life so I cater to them all I can. I make sure they feel comfortable with me, pose them as gracefully as they are, and we create art during their session and after, during the editing process. I let my clients know that we can do whatever they imagine!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so many activities you can do in Atlanta but I would 100% recommend people to go out and admire Georgias nature! In my job I am always scouting nice places for photoshoots and have discovered so many beautiful spots. I recommend taking a hike in Cochran Mill Park, visit Vickey Creek Falls, take a trip through the botanical garden… the list is endless! If you’re a foodie my all time favorite spots are Fox Bros Bar-B-Q & JINYA Ramen Bar. Those spots will leave be sleepy full!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to take this opportunity to shoutout these three people that have dedicated so much to my business and helped me through the ups and downs. My immigrant parents that have always taught me to be fearless and chase my dreams. They have been entrepreneurs for most of their life and run a successful business themselves. Im more than grateful for all the risks, sweat and tears they endured to give me the American dream. The other person is my husband. He has been my backbone for 8 years. He has watched every bad and good thing during this journey. He not only supports my career but helps in every way possible. His wisdom, drive & love have helped me and picked me up so many times during my career. Huge shoutout to my support system.
