We had the good fortune of connecting with SALYMAH IV and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi SALYMAH IV, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent in terms of impact is directly teach the importance of family to each child. Alongside placing emphasis on family values I recognize the importance of spirituality when dealing with others outside ourselves.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is my heart and I don’t take it for granted. As an artist I am so intentional with uplifting my people through my music. My music sets me apart due its practicality. Everything within my music is practical. You don’t like something in your life imagine where you wanna be, but also be grateful for where you are. I remember being in so many dark spaces, but the positive whispers I received from mentors and the Qadr were so pivotal in my ability to keep going. I challenge people to get in their communities make a change or just be the change they wanna see as I have been allowed to. I address colorism within my music which was terrible growing up. I am most excited about two upcoming songs I’ve dedicated to Jamil, Layla, Bruce Lee, Dr. Mutulu Shakur, flowing on Eddie Ray’s Cali beats, and for Tizone engineering me. Professionally, I have gotten where I am by continuing to strive remembering my purpose as well as the hardships my ancestors faced for me to have such a fruitful life. This journey has not been easy at all. So many rough days, which still exists. I simply believe past experiences aids me in improving which is how I overcame many challenges. Realizing what did work and what didn’t is how I continue to preserve my true essence.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So if my best friend Juice and Queen B were to visit we would go hit up a Goodwill (preferably in the West End), grab some food from Springreeens in East Atlanta, head towards Ashby riding scooters, then take a walk through Atlantic Station. By this time it’d be mellow and smooth in the city so we’d check out Andre 3000’s New Blue Sun Live which was the most peaceful/crunk Musical live show EVER! After the show we would head on ever to Jeni’s, grab some of that ice cream and depending on the budget a soda to! We’d end the evening dancing away life underneath lights at the crib with mocktails!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always have to first thank Allah! Special shout out to my multifaceted organic husband/lyricist Jamil! His artistry inspires me in such a direct, sacred, and personal form. Next, Layla our baby girl for her wisdom and sacred support. An extended thank you to both Malcom x & Tupac Shakur’s legacy. My family is always supporting me like no other. As far as organizations I’d like to give a standing ovation to IMAN Atlanta for allowing me to give back to our Atlanta Community through their intentional organization. I’d like to give recognition to Majlis Ashura Of Metro Atlanta for their constant reminders of my purpose in life. If y’all ever in East Atlanta swing by Springreens Cafe!!! To all my mentors thank y’all. Lastly, to my mother 3 times, I thank you for everything you’ve endured to get me where I am. To my pops, Westside forever. Any person who has given me a chance to be great I thank you as well.
