We had the good fortune of connecting with Salomé Robert-Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salomé, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was raised totally immersed in the arts. My grandparents are actors and my parents are music and film fanatics. Performing was always a hobby of mine and as I grew older I realised it was the only thing I could see myself doing as a career. I think artists are innately so connected to their emotions and have so much to say and share with the world, and this is definitely true for me. My career really allows me to express and stay true to myself and I’m so grateful that I am able to do what I love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I recently launched a platform called The Self Series, where I showcase self-written, self-shot monologues. I felt really stifled during the pandemic with the lack of opportunities and needed a creative outlet, so The Self Series came to be! It’s been an amazing way for fellow artists and I to keep up and training and produce new work, and I’m proud of what it’s become. The platform made me realise that I am capable of creating my own content, and led to me collaborating with my talented friends Lexie Duval and Zack Travis on the short film, Sell It To Me a Different Way. The whole process was the most hands on I’d ever been on a project and it was so much fun. The film also ended up winning Best Indie Short at Europe Film Festival and I was awarded Best Actress at Metropolis Film Festival!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favourite way to explore New York City is just to walk everywhere! Just head in any direction and take in all the different neighbourhoods. I also love going to all the flea and farmers markets, they always have the most authentic and delicious food, and unique clothing and decor. The upper west side farmers market and grand bazaar flea market have to be favourite.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people in my life who have helped me get to where I am. I am so blessed to have true friends and family that support me in all of my endeavours. One of my best friends, Jessica Levit, is my absolute biggest fan and cheerleader. While most of my friends are actors and performers, she is separate from that world and this makes her so unbiased with her opinions and advice. So shoutout to you Jessie, I love you!
