We had the good fortune of connecting with Salice Like Alice and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salice, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
To me personally, giving up is not an option. As long as your heart is still beating, there’s always a reason to continue. There’s days where I feel like I am lacking motivation, but I always reflect on my journey that got me to my current point. Whenever I look back and think about my journey, it pushes me to continue because, the grind never stops! It’s all about gratitude when it comes to life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been doing content creating for almost two years and within those two years, my focus has always been around music, specifically Afrobeats. I enjoy going to/hosting concerts, interviewing artists, co-organize artist sessions and joining podcasts. I’m extremely proud of myself for doing this because as a Ghanaian woman in New York City, there aren’t many of us who do what I do. And that’s what makes it special because I want to motivate other young African girls to really step out their comfort zone and do something they truly love and not the societal norms and standards. It wasn’t easy for me because at a point in life I was in middle between pleasing my family and those around me and trying to achieve my heart desires/dreams. I decided to choose myself because at the end of the day, it’s my life and we only have one life to live. I love music, I love everything about it. I want to be that bridge between listeners and artists.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In New York City, there’s so much to do!

If my best friend was visiting the city, I want to give her the raw experience. So not only that I’ll show her around the tourist spots: Empire State Building, Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge. But, I’ll also show her the local spots Little Street Lounge in Harlem for Ghanaian food, or International Brunch in Brooklyn for good eats and party. I would even take her to Coney Island and walk through the boardwalk and go on rides and explore Luna Park ( when the weather is warmer of course).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to all the young girls out there who feel like their dreams are impossible because of their current life situation or setting. I just want them to know, there’s always a way. Never ever give up, because all it takes is that one day to change your entire life. That one day can be today, tomorrow, next week, next month. Anytime from now, life can drastically change whether for good or bad, but it’s up to you to make it the best!
