We had the good fortune of connecting with Sa’id Salaam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sa’id, what do you want people to remember about you?
One of the ironies of being an author is that you literally get to write your own legacy. Long after I’m gone from this realm my body of work with remain. A body of work that will give insight to who I was. I think it will show a person with a genuine love of God and humanity. A person who tried to serve the Creator as well as the creation.
History remembers names and Sa’id Salaam will remain.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I watched people reading my books and saw the emotional swings on their faces. I’ve seen them elated and angry. I’ve watched as they sat the book down to ponder on something they just read. People have often described my work as watching a movie. That’s exactly what I’m going because it plays like a movie while I’m writing them.
My brand is known for entertaining, enthralling stories that make you think. I try to craft my stories to let the readers fully engage their own imagination.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is such a diverse city. It really rivals much larger metropolises around the country. I’m an avid eater so a tour with me would include all of the wonderful restaurants in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to credit my peers in my success as well. From the start I’ve received such great support and encouragement from people who technically are my competition. I know he would be shocked to hear this but author Cole Hart was definitely a mentor for me. Seeing how hard he worked encouraged me to work harder.
Then on the flip side is the haters in the industry. They too were a motivating factor. Knowing that my success was killing them only made me go harder.
