We had the good fortune of connecting with Safira and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Safira, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I just know there is nothing else in the word that can make me as happy as making music. I can’t see myself doin anything else for the rest of my life, therefore giving up is not an option.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from other artist is my unique perspectives. I believe that there are so many factors: my upbringing, graduating from Georgia State, being a Navy veteran, being a big sister, and being a child of divorced parents. I have the ability to offer a very unique perspective from multiple lenses of life.

Right now, I’m most excited about the blessings to come. I’m gearing up for two stages at SXSW which will be my first out of state performances. I’m excited to be consistent and release new music. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made in 3 years. Of course I could be farther, but it’s all in Gods plan.

The journey to becoming a successful artist is not easy at all. There’s no one path to take. There’s so many moving parts to figure out. How do I get more performances? How do I get my streams up? How do I find that loyal fan base? It’s a game that really takes a lot of patience and reflection.

I am still overcoming challenges to this day. I’m in a blessed position and I recognize the potential I have. I understand that consistency is really the most important key to success aside from simply believing in yourself, but I also have mental obstacles that hold me back. I have a fear of being seen. I have the fear of a large number of people having access to my life. I’m very introverted. . It’s a work in progress.

I’ve learned many lessons in these few years. In this industry, it is imperative to stand out. In the age of the Internet, it seems as though going viral is what everyone aims to do. That’s great, but artist development overtime is much more important than having a viral moment to me. I’ve learned that you have to invest in yourself as though you are a walking business. Being independent ain’t free and it for sure ain’t cheap.

I want the world to know that who I am to the core is still slowly being exposed. I haven’t reached my musical peak yet, I haven’t released my best song yet. The Safira everyone is seeing now isn’t even 10 percent of the vision I have for her.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For breakfast, we’re going to start our day at either Another Broken Egg,Gochas Breakfast Bar, or Breakfast on Barneys (depends on where I’m at in the city). If we’re talking brunch, I’d go with The Hive or Fin and Feathers.

I like to get active so best believe we’re doing plenty of waking. I’d start on GSU campus, reminiscing about the amazing memories I made there as a student. Hopefully there’s an event in centennial Park where we could also walk around.

For lunch I’m definitely going to Hungry Af to get Chef Kodaks pasta. I’ve been going to him from years and he has the best pasta ever. OR Jinya Ramen, the best ramen spot.

From there, I’ll probably head to Piedmont Park with some friends, get a blanket, and just chill and enjoy the weather and the beautiful view of the Atlanta skyline.

For dessert is definitely gonna be sublime donuts, especially the Dirty D donut.

Now for night activities, I’m tryna have a good time! Where I go depends on the day of the week. Rum Punch, Bonfire, possibly a spot on Edgewood. I could also hit up the Battery, especially on a game day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout goes to my family. They are the most motivating people and I recognize how blessed I am to have their unwavering faith and support in me.
