Meet Sadie Lebo | Plant Shop Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sadie Lebo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sadie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is my outlook on success. I have really grown to believe that success is so much more than a profit or status quo. To me, my business was a success from the day I thought it up. I came up with a business model that not only lets me work with plants (which I love), but also allows me to work alongside my family (which I love even more!). When I decided to quit my job and go all in on this business, I told myself I would give it a year and that even if I didn’t make one sale – it would still be a giant success because of the time spent creatively with my family. Since starting my business, it has also grown financially successful as well. I think my mindset has a lot to do with that. I think it is really hard to start a new career path if you think of success as a number or level of recognition. It is easy to fall into the comparing and negative thinking patterns with that outlook, which can crumble your business before it even has a chance to grow. The idea of “what if it fails?” stops so many people from pursuing a business idea – but is giving your dreams a chance really ever a failure?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to think of myself as a plant artist as well as a small business owner. I manage my online shop, order supplies, craft the marketing, handle the photography – while also caring for and creating plant pieces that are one of a kind. I think this sets me apart from other plant shops. My items are very hand-crafted. I like to look for unique pottery as well as crystals to pair with plants. I also do a lot of antiquing across states, which really helps me to make truly one of a kind creations. Many of my creations have traveled a long way to be sold here in Atlanta. There have been challenges, space has been a hard one. My idea for my business came before the space did, ha! My place is a jungle, which I don’t mind! I am looking to expand soon though so that I have a larger growing space. I work with my mother’s greenhouses often, and that can be challenging – because they are in northern Indiana – so the driving can be hard, but it is worth it to spend time with my family. I have learned a lot on this journey professionally and emotionally. I am really proud and excited for my business. I really love my creations and it is so great to be able to share them with others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I would take them to some of my favorite spots! Which include Lotta Frutta, Barcelona Wine Bar, Lady Bird, Ninos, Paolino, Krog Market and the Beltline. I would also want to take them to the Botanical Garden and Aquarium.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Huge shout out to my mother, Kristine Lebo for helping me get my business on it’s feet. I could not have done it without her. Shout out to my dad, James Lebo, who always has my back. Shout out to all my amazing family and friends that have supported my shop, there are truly too many to list! I love you all! Huge shout out to Lotta Frutta for being so kind and welcoming to my shop popping up next to them. And last but not least, shout out to my partner in life Jesse Eagle. Thank you for your unconditional support and love! Love you!
