We had the good fortune of connecting with Sa’de Rickerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sa’de, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting a business is a commitment that requires dedication and a ton of sacrifice. My grandma had Parkinson’s but was the best cook and baker on this side of the earth! I always followed her around the kitchen. She ultimately passed the torch to me when her health started to fail. I always knew I wanted to start a business but didn’t know how. I thought I was ready eight years ago, but honestly, I had no clue what I was doing. It all started in 2014 when I decided to start making chocolate-covered treats. I enjoyed making treats but decided to expand my talents and start offering cheesecakes and fruit spreads. The customization of treats was time-consuming and not exactly what I wanted to continue with. I stopped offering them to focus fully on cheesecakes and grazing tables. I am now in 2022, bigger and better, still offering cheesecakes, fruit tables, charcuterie boards, and grazing tables. My goal is to continue to offer exemplary customer service and create some of the best charcuterie boards and cheesecakes you’ve ever had.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
If you look up the word busy in the dictionary, you will probably find my name beside it. Although I own a business, I still work full-time. I’ve always been a go-getter and give my best at whatever I do. Becoming who I am today has not always been easy. Persistence, consistency, and perseverance got me to where I am. I’m constantly challenging myself to be and give the best version of myself. It will always be me vs. me!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For the love of Augusta! I would welcome them to my home with a charcuterie board made by me, of course, and some wine. For food throughout the week, we would visit Vance’s Bakery Bar, Beck’s, Frog Hollow, Knuckle Sandwiches, Sole, and Jackie M’s. Social activities would include us going to a game at SRP Park, I would check to see if any live bands are playing, the axe room downtown, and what is coming to Augusta without checking out the James Brown Statue Lol!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh My! So many people have helped me on this journey. A few of my mentors would include Jamey Sprowls of The Sweet Suite Bakeshop and Angela Robinson of My Sweet Southern Soul. No matter how many questions I had, they were always willing to help me without hesitation. I appreciate them more than they could ever know!
