We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Scott-Pappas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
They say you need to do things for love and not for money. In a world where some studio apartment rents are $3,000 per month, I wholeheartedly disagree. I believe that nobody, but NOBODY can dictate your motivation for success. Do we care about Jonas Salk’s motivation to find a vaccine for polio? No — we care that he found a vaccine.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
ES BEVERAGE is manufacturer of the only BIPOC manufactured, shelf-ready, Keurig-compatible CPG coffee in the United States. We are often overlooked in discussions of #blackcoffee because our K-cup brand is for Keurig machines. We are a 100% bootstrapped company; but we did receive a tech makeover from the COMCAST RISE program. I am currently the national face of the program and we were proud to participate in ad campaigns from both, COMCAST and NBCUniversal.

A source of pride for me was being one of the first companies to offer an upmarket coffee brand for sale via-Alexa skill and via-subscription box model on CrateJoy and Amazon; as well as being one of the first (of the same) to livestream on TalkShopLive.

The road is always challenging; but the challenges make the road worth taking.
We had been working on a deal to put WRITER’S FUEL into a major warehouse chain; but COVID-based Supply Chain issues have delayed the process. These things happen; and patience is worth more than gold in these scenarios.

Challenges like COVID have taught us the immense value of agility and corresponding speed in business.

I want aspiring entrepreneurs to know that life is not over until you take your last breath — so don’t give up. Modify, pivot, re-organize, scream, cuss, cry,… whatever you have to do — but don’t give up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Between working all the time and COVID, they don’t let me out much lol. That being said, I really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the Battery; home of the Braves baseball team in Marietta.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my former House Manager, Alazaih Evans. Her contribution to the development of WRITER’S FUEL Superior Single-Serve Coffee is ever invaluable!
