We had the good fortune of connecting with Rylee Nicholson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rylee, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
First and foremost, I am inspired by God. He will always be my #1. Second is my parents and their work ethic, their love for one another, and how they never gave up on me, even during the hard times in my pursuit of being successful. Musically I’ve been inspired by so many people. Starting with my grandfather, to country music greats such as Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Merle Haggard, and the list could go on and on. I’m also inspired by being able to chase a dream that most people would just consider a pipe dream. And finally, I’m inspired by other people who do the same thing and go after what they want, love, and dream about.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Rylee Nicholson is a multi-award winning Country Artist/Songwriter from Nashville, Indiana. He now makes his home in Georgia.
Rylee has always had a deep bluegrass connection.Rylee’s grandpa Sims and his Uncle Sims are his biggest influences.”I still remember being a kid and listening to them jamming on the back porch, and around the Christmas tree every year! it was always a party when Pappy brought out the banjo.” Rylee just finally decided to see what country music had for him. Rylee has 22 songs out on iTunes, Spotify, etc. But he has written over 50 songs total, some of these with co-writers.
In 2019 he joined the International Singer Songwriters Association. Rylee has now been awarded the 2019 “Male Vocalist Of The Year,” 2020 “Male Rising Star,” and the 2021 “Male Songwriter Of The Year (Silver)” award for ISSA. Also in 2019 He won “Male Artist Of The Year” for the Social Stars Awards, and was also nominated for the “Pure Country” award, and “Pure Country Album Of The Year” Award, which was honored at the Texas Christian University auditorium. He was excited to recently find out that he’d been nominated for the 2022 Pure Country Awards for “Song Of The Year,” and “Artist Of The Year”. And for the 2022 International Singer Songwriters Association Awards in Atlanta, GA. He’s been nominated for 6 different categories.
Rylee has recently teamed up with producer Dave Demay and songwriter Tony Olson for his upcoming EP. He also cut a song written by hit songwriter Wynn Varble and Dan Demay that will be released in spring of 2022. He’s working on finishing his third album which has no release date as of yet. Rylee’s songs always tell a story and have heart, he has potential to have a great music career.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, you gotta go to a Braves game. The new stadium is beautiful and the crowds are just electrifying. Then I’d head over to the sharks, maybe catch a race at the Atlanta motor speedway. Maybe go to a Kenny Chesney concert at the Georgia Theater or the Fox theater.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I want to give a huge shout-out to Larry Migliore, who co-wrote 6 of the songs on my first album, and believed in me from the beginning when no one else did. He let me record songs he’s written without expecting anything in return because he saw my potential and passion for music. Sheri Lynn and Bobby Swift deserve recognition for believing in me from the beginning. I sent them half-written songs and asked them if they wanted to co-write with me. In most cases, established songwriters wouldn’t have even looked at my lyrics. But for some reason, they could see my fire and love for music and decided to help me bring my lyrics to life.
Bobby Swift also introduced me to my vocal coach Renee-Grant Williams who was a teacher to so many great singers such as Cristina Agulera, Miley Cyrus, Faith Hill, Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, and the list goes on. She taught me so much and I miss her dearly.
Now I want to shine a light on a few of my producers, Bryan Austin, and Gary Carter, for producing my first album and some of my second album. And Dave Demay for continuously working to bring out my best vocal performance, while Working so meticulously and in-depth with me in the studio. He always goes the extra mile to make sure that every single note and line is just right while producing me in the studio.
I would have never met Dave if it weren’t for Tony Olson, a songwriter from Idaho who let me cut three of his amazing songs. (Two of which are currently in the Top 100 on the charts!) He has more drive and thirst for music and songwriting than anyone I have ever met. I definitely will always look up to Tony not only as a songwriter but as a friend.
I want to give another shout-out to Willow Stone for always believing in my music, going above and beyond whenever I need help with anything, and always creating the best cover album photos.
A big part of the place I’m at in my career now is because of Tamanie Dove and the International Singer-Songwriters Association. ISSA is a free platform founded by Tamanie Dove, for singer-songwriters and musicians worldwide. That provides year-round visibility for its members across various and vast social media platforms. Tamanie always spends countless hours making sure ISSA is prominent in all realms of internet promotional sites, with music industry resources, and in coordinating day-to-day communication, support, and promotion with their members. This woman is not only a blessing to my music, but to tens of thousands of artists and songwriters around the globe trying to get their music heard.
