We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryann Beasley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryann, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, I had no intentions of starting a business. Ignite Intentions began as a form of therapy and self care after suffering a devastating loss. I had no idea how to make a candle, let alone run a business! But I enjoyed it more and more and found that I really had a knack for pairing essential oils. As for hobbies go, I don’t dabble in anything for more than a few months at most, but candle making grew into a passion of mine.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ignite Intentions was born in honor and remembrance of my infant son, Tristan. My therapist suggested I take on a new hobby as a “productive” emotional outlet. After having zero previous knowledge, I decided to try making candles. My kitchen easily became an escape for me to learn and experience first hand the positive effects of aromatherapy. Using strong, powerful oils such as eucalyptus immediately helped me focus on any task at hand (and open my sinuses). Ignite Intentions is a little over a year old and honestly, it has been easy for me. Easy, but still challenging. Because I’m so passionate about it, I’m willing to put in the countless hours of trial and error, experimenting with new scents, and brainstorming new products. So far I’ve learned how unlikely your supporters can be and the influence of face to face marketing, as opposed to social media. If anything, I want the world to know that something beautiful can come from something so earth shattering. I constantly remind myself that if it were not for the loss of Tristan, I would have never had the drive and motivation to start my own business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta is Spoon Eastside off Moreland Avenue. They have the most INCREDIBLE Thai food! My husband and I have gone there for years and even made a pitstop after our wedding reception before heading to our hotel suite. The owners are the sweetest couple you could imagine and have moved on to open a new concept in Hapeville called, Paper Plane. I would also take them to the Battery at Truist Park where the Atlanta Braves play. The Battery also happens to be my place of work when I’m not making candles. There are several places to eat and Terrapin Taproom hosts trivia on Thursdays.
I also recommend either Starlight Drive in movie theater or the historic Plaza Theater Ponce de Leon.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The source of my motivation is and will always be my daughter and my husband. Their unwavering support and flexibility are what give me the courage to keep going. I want my daughter to look at me with pride but also understand that there are no limits to what she can do.
