We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Czarnonycz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, how does your business help the community?
I am the Assistant Operations Manager at CompostNow. CompostNow is a collection service who empowers community members and local businesses to divert their compostables from the landfill, and instead, use those nutrients to build healthy soil. In short, we help people compost! To date, our members have diverted over 29 million pounds of compostables from the landfill which has created over 9 million pounds of nutrient-rich compost for local use!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I was growing up, I had always thought I would have a long military career like some of my relatives. I enlisted back in 2001, and, after a few years, I knew that I was not on the right path. Finding that right path was very difficult. I have had many different types of jobs and learned many different skills from them that has been helpful. But none of them seemed to be the right fit. I’ve also worked in many restaurants. After meeting my partner, I did come to the conclusion that I needed to do something that was good for the planet and for people. In most recent years, I have had jobs in gardening and farming. I ended up at CompostNow in 2019. I was taking a chance. I did not live in Atlanta and did not really know all of the areas very well. But the mission of this company stood apart from everywhere else that I had ever worked. I felt like I had finally found the right place! I believe in what we are doing – it is like the link in the chain from the farm to the table. Now that I’ve been here sine 2019, I have strived for excellence in this company. I am proud to be a part of this company. I feel like I finally have a career and not just a job. Since starting here as a driver, I have moved up within the company. Currently, I am the Assistant Operations Manager in Atlanta! I would give advice to anyone to keep searching for the right path and eventually you will find it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
No itinerary is the best itinerary! I would probably show off my homestead for a start. They could meet the goats, cows, chickens, ducks, quail, dogs, cats, and parrot. Then head off to one of the many awesome local parks and do some hiking! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my partner of eleven years, Rose. When we first met I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. She has a vast knowledge of gardening and many other things! Through this time, she has shared that knowledge with me, and we’ve both learned so much more. Fast forward to now, and we are homesteaders on a small farm! Without her love and encouragement, I definitely would not be where I am today! I would also like to give a shoutout to my children who also inspire me daily.
