We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruffin Consulting Services, the #1 life insurance expert, and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruffin Consulting Services, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
What’s the end goal? We all start this journey wanting to solve a problem and feel fulfilled in our efforts but it’s so important to play the long game. The long game will last for generations to come, so when you ask “what’s the end goal” the end goal is to be a household name synonymous with life insurance planning and wealth management. Many families will share stories about how one consultation with Ruffin Consulting Services changed the trajectory of their family’s legacy. At the end of the day, it’s bigger than me Ebony Ruffin, it’s a purpose driven calling and I was chosen to be the vessel to change the narrative of life insurance from a death benefit to a wealth benefit.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Ruffin Consulting Services is a business consulting firm providing life insurance solutions to families and business owners. Ruffin Consulting Services has made life insurance an attractive topic to discuss. Instead of our clients running away from life insurance as a death benefit, they are attracted to the financial tool as a wealth benefit. The key to our success is education first. We have a free interactive life insurance course that will take you from confused to confident about life insurance. The course includes short videos paired with infographics and worksheets to make it easier to learn and retain how to calculate your life insurance needs, where and how to apply for life insurance and why life insurance is an integral component to a financial plan. I am most proud of the edification from our clients and peers. Positive word of mouth has positioned Ruffin Consulting Services for winning collaborations, quality clients and trust. While this is all worth celebrating, it must be noted that consistency, hard-work and relationship capital helped grow the business organically. Overtime it has become increasingly evident that success is truly a team effort. My team consists of my CPA, attorney, sales/illustrations agent, underwriters, state licensing departments, website developer, photographer, image/branding consultant and my personal board of directors. All behind the scenes each team member is contributing to making Ruffin Consulting Services a household brand. The world will know Ruffin Consulting Services as the company that changed the narrative of life insurance from a death topic to a wealth topic.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Ohhh so I am the perfect woman for this question. I am often referred to as Buckhead Ebony within my social group. If my bestie Sheronda or my sisters visited for a week, the visit would go a little something like this. Arrive to my oasis where I will have fresh salad and hors d’oeuvres, a fresh candle lit and a wine selection consisting of Meiomi Pinot Noir, Belle Glos Pinot Noir, Bouchard Aine & Fils Pinot Noir and Old Smoky Salty Caramel Whiskey. Of course this applies to my visitors over the age of 21. We will start with great conversation, food and wine and then head off to a full body message by the BEST masseuse in Buckhead. His name is Zaw at Treat Your Feet Buckhead. After the spa, we will return home to get fancy for dinner at La Grotta. After La Grotta we will enjoy evening tunes a Le Colonial or The Garden Room ATL. The next day, Sunday, we will wake up and enjoy a morning walk to Brash Coffee. After coffee and a morning walk, we will head over to Bobby Jones Golf Course to swing a few balls at the driving range and enjoy a bite at Boone’s. If my golf team members are up to it, I would more than likely ask them to play nine holes with us. After golf, there is nothing better than Old Smoky Salty Caramel, a nice shower and dinner. Dinner will be at Pricci Buckhead or the new location of Yebo Beach Haus. Monday and Tuesday will be a day out in Midtown. We will enjoy dining at Tabla and Sams of San Francisco and then enjoy the High Museum of Art and Piedmont Park. Wednesday will be a drop in yoga class at CorePower Yoga and then Flowerchild for a healthy bite. Thursday will be a lovely evening at the Botanical Gardens and then dinner at Cafe Intermezzo. This is the perfect place for delicious food and the best people watching. Last but not least on Friday, I would surprise my bestie or sisters with a makeup session and photoshoot. We will order in and layout at the pool and just namaste after the photoshoot. Saturday we will enjoy a delicious cup of coffee from Brash before they return home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Success is never from the single doing of one person. Success and impact is always the result of a sequence of events and people who have watered your foundation so that you may blossom into the successful person you are today. I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my mom, dad, grandma and my favorite book The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. My mom gave me a lifestyle and upbringing that is priceless. Traveling the world as a little girl and being taught in words and real life experiences the power of being resilient, brave, fearless and educated, created the woman I am today. My mom taught me the importance of seeking to understand, saving, investing and always being root caused focused. My foundation makes a difference in who I am as a business owner and industry leader. My dad, a wise and loving father, from Montgomery, AL gave me the secret sauce to success. My dad would always say “sweety always be yourself, be respectful and leave something to the imagination.” My father taught the power of saying little but saying a lot in a few words, tone and delivery of a message. He is the wisest man I know and I thank him for being by my side. My grandmother taught me the importance of life insurance before I even understood life insurance as a wealth tool. I would always sit in the living room on my grandmother’s fine furniture when the insurance man visited the home to review the life insurance policies. I listened in on the entire meeting and watched as my grandmother rolled up the important papers and stored them in her secret place. She directly and indirectly taught me so much about life insurance planning. My mother did the same as she made one very important decision as I headed off to college. She purchased a permanent life insurance policy through USAA and made me the owner. My paternal grandfather taught me the value of respecting God’s time. My maternal grandfather taught me the value of saving, investing, owning land/real estate, being kind yet firm and unconditional love. Last and most importantly, The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren is my go to book to remain grounded and focused on the most important aspects of life. I first read the book summer 2017 and it changed my life. I am reading the book again and looking forward to how I respond after reading for the second time.

In summary, when your readers find me, they will find me operating in my purpose.

Peace, love and life insurance.
