Meet Rose Starring | Independent Singer-songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rose Starring and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rose, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by life – all of the good, bad, and ugly parts of it. We’re living through very interesting times unlike any other point in history before, and I think that our collective reaction to this is very interesting to behold. Humans are incredibly resilient creatures. I’m inspired by what I’ve overcome and my own strength; I’ll write a song to heal my own wounds and then release it to find that so many others feel the same. It’s incredibly empowering. In a time where the internet can make you feel so small, it can also remind us that we are also a part of something much bigger. Raising your voice encourages others to do the same in turn – I’m inspired by those who rose their voice before me. People who did not listen to trends and strategies to appeal to the masses. People who create art for the love of it and for themselves. I’m very interested in the idea of not trying to mimic what’s already out there, because someone out there wants music that fits the hole that you’re ready to fill. I try to create for myself; it is the release of that art that connects me to others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music is very vulnerable. I tend to write from my own experiences, so listening to my music is a lot like reading my diary. It’s raw, unapologetically dramatic, and honors both the good and bad in life. I think that what sets me apart from others is the sincerity of my songwriting. That’s not to say that others are insincere; I just think that how open I’m willing to be is definitely something that I’ve always been proud of. I got to where I am today because music is my escape, and there’s no shortage of things you’ll find you need an escape from in life. I find so much joy in creating music, and I want to keep doing it for as long as I can. I want to keep creating art even if it’s only for myself. The lessons I’ve learned have been to stay true to yourself, create art that speaks to you, and not put so much pressure on it that you lose the love for creating altogether. I want the world to know that you matter, your voice matters, and you are not alone. Your pain is valid and real. There is something so beautiful about the real-life alchemy of turning suffering into art that can help others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I believe this interview is for Atlanta, but since I’m a Nashvillian that hasn’t been to Atlanta yet, I’ll share my favorite Nashville spots! I would start with some donuts from Five Daughters bakery, then take them shopping at some of my favorite antique stores like GasLamp Antiques and East Nashville Antiques. I’d take them out to a cool local restaurant like Hawkers, then Up-Down or Rosemary Beauty Queen for drinks! If they wanted to listen to live music, as one does in Nashville, I’d take them to one of my favorite writer’s rounds like the Pindrop Songwriter Series.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to all of the wonderful friends that I’ve shared over the course of my life! I would be nowhere without the support of my closest people. If I was left to my own devices, I’d self-destruct within the first couple of days – I always need to be pulled out of my own mind, and there’s no one who does that better than your friends. They remind me how beautiful life can be and how full of love we all are. They also remind me not to take myself or life so seriously, and to be kinder to myself. I see so much beauty in all of them and hope to be able to give myself the same grace that I would a good friend. Seeing myself through their eyes is when I truly feel the most beautiful.
