Meet Rose Mason | Yarn Craft Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rose Mason and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rose, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
It was really hard at first to balance my time because this is a small business and I have a full-time job in addition to a family. I had to learn to say no to orders when they become too excessive. I also had to prioritize family and friends above profits after a time to ensure that I maintained those strong relationships which ended up adding so much more to the business because with family and friends by my side, I was able to have thought partners when making decisions and had help when I needed extra hands to help with shows and markets. I made strong use of a to-do list to help me so that I would not work without end. With a to-do list, I could decide the order of importance and compete tasks that were most urgent first.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Besides the therapeutic aspect of crocheting and knitting, I find being able to create items that are useful and beautiful is very satisfying. It takes practice and perseverance to make something out of yarn and that in itself is a metaphor for living and navigating the world. I would do what I do even if I wasn’t being paid for it and I often do. LOL

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Gosh! Well, I would have to start in downtown Powder Springs. Our first stop would be Rooted for locally handmade goods and it would give me an opportunity to show off my booth. Then we’d go next door to Smith’s Gourmet Creations for some delicious seafood then end with some dessert from Sweet Southern. Then, we would spend some time on the Silver Comet trail and eat some delicious foods at Suga’s Cheese Shoppe. Before the day is done, we would have to get some good books from the Bookworm and grab a good cocktail from Nibles Kitchen and Bar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout Rooted Trading Co. in Powder Springs. Jake Hardy, the owner of Rooted is a true supporter of small businesses. Because of his support, I have had several popups so I can meet my customers face-to-face. His store supports many local artists and artisans of handmade and local goods. You can find everything from handmade soaps, candles, grab-and-go foods and beverages, and bicycle rentals there.
