We had the good fortune of connecting with Rose Gilliam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rose, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thoughts about starting my own business was to be able to work for myself. I got tired of working for people, always being on someone else’s time. Now I have so much time to be able to work on my business and improve in myself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I host expos, events and pop up shops . What I’m most proud of is that I’m still going, doing these events has made me more open and very outspoken. Sometimes these events can be discouraging, not only for vendors but for host also. We expect so much for others to support us and be there. But strangers become your biggest supporters and every event turns out to be different. I never know the outcome, I always do the best I can.

A lot of business owners know me as Rose of BlvkRoseExpo. I’m very social at events. I try to connect with all my vendors. Make a bond with them, talk to them, make them laugh, make them smile. Not only do I provide a space for you to make money, but at Blvk Rose Expo, you will always have a good time. It’s always a vibe, and I’ve gained more than just vendors some of them have actually became good friends of mine.
What sets me apart from others is I’m going to always be honest and keep it real with you. I will never lead you on to believe my events are way better than other host. But I will offer you an opportunity to give it a try. But in this type of business, you can not please everyone, but I try my best to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Grandmother & Father has had a very big impact on my Brand . Blvk Rose is pronounced Black Rose which means “New Beginnings” Major Change. My father started a foundation which was called Major Change and my Grandma was known as Rose as well as Myself. When you picture a black rose you think of darkness but it actually can symbolize a rebirth of positivity. It’s the start of something new and that
S what my brand brings, New beginnings. Rest In Peace to my Grandmother & Father everything I do is for them .
