We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosa Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
My view of risk is that you only live once, you get one chance to live and how you manage your life, the risks that you take is what’s going to determine how you live your life. I do not believe the term “You are very lucky” in my opinion business owners are not lucky, they are people who have made sacrifices to achieve their goals and took risks to get where they want to be. Growing up I always had a mentality to get a Monday to Friday job with a minimum salary of $15.00 per hour and I thought that was a good job, Boy! was I wrong, destiny made me realize that is just a job where I would be stuck for ever. I also feel like you need to have passion for what you do, I started making candles and took the risk to work part time instead of full time at my current job. And that’s the risk I took to realize that being a entrepreneur would have more success than working a full time Monday to Friday job. Risks are scary but at the end of the day those risks are the ones that prepare you for success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is making candles I make various styles and have a good selection of scents. I always select scents based on the seasons. My candles are apart from others because I go to Mexico and buy the pottery mugs and turn them into candles. Also once you are done burning your candle you can reuse the mug so your money is not going to waste once you are done with the wax. Every time I select a mug to turn into a candle it excites me because I think about the design the mug has and that’s what will determine the scent. It was not easy to have this business at first, I went through so much money expenses and so much testing. I would sometimes wonder if it was worth it. But as more testing occurred and more classes I took I realized this was what I wanted to do. Making a candle is so satisfying when I am making them my brain automatically calms downs, and I enjoy every step of the process of candle making. I want the world to know that each purchase you make it means the world to me, I look at it like I am taking light and scent to your home. My brand is 100% hand make by me I select every scent and every mug style.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friends was visiting I would take her to Atlanta to explore the city and see what the city offers day and night but also I would take the friend North Georgia so they can see the country side and the mountains so they have a feeling of how Georgia has different areas and different vibes. I feel like city and mountain areas is a unique experience to explore in Georgia. And I would for sure take them to a nice restaurant like SUN DIAL and and to a Cracker Barrel in North Georgia and have they try our famous Peach Cobbler that is a must!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband he is always encouraging me to go to the markets and tells me to always show up even if I only make a sale in a day. On rainy days when I say I don’t want to go to the markets he says “You never know who you are going to meet today” show up! All that encouragement has helped me become more open minded to see where I want to head to and love even more what I do.
