We had the good fortune of connecting with Romye Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Romye, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business in media was to reverse engineer the process of being a traditional artist and the aspect of marketing. In the past the emphasis was not based on branding, but being a true artist was the emphasis which attention was paid to entering into the industry unless you had a major company backing you. Due to the climate set forth by newer contemporary artist, branding has become equal to music creation itself. With all the technological advances from when I first began ( social media, streaming etc ) it is imperative that one takes advantage of the “tools” that are available to create a springboard for launching your business and creating the foundation needed without taking on extravagant expenses that will build up and most likely hinder business growth. Also during this time I ventured into what can be called the “Green Rush ” and expanded my ideals into the cannabis industry creating my brand Botttos Gardens which is an acronym for Break On Through To The Other Side
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At this time I’m involved with multiple businesses. They were all created to build to what could be called a “One Stop Shop”. Each of the business entities are intertwined to offer a client or artist an all-in experience without having to seek outside engagement. First was building a music / film studio to create the backbone ( Friction studios ) secondly was fulfilling merchandise needs ( Ch1 Media ) then there is the retail shop / online store ( Store242 ) next was creating a platform to market music, merch, videos as well as entering the podcast field ( PharcydeTV ) . This year has brought another entity ( Botttos Gardens ) which will allow me to conduct business in the growing cannabis industry. None of it is easy and everyday presents a new challenge to overcome or figure out. I think the biggest lesson is not to succumb to failure or disappointing results. Learn from your mistakes or shortcomings and figure out the solution. Not everyone’s blueprint will build the house best for you. What I would like people to know is that this was not built on any major corporation backed experimentation in the urban market, everything was built to deliver a pure unfiltered creative aspect to make sure the uniqueness is maintained.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All my friends know I’m not the person who hangs out a lot. I’m the friend who is trying to figure out how we can get together and execute a plan.. I think the best thing is cooking something for your folks and having real conversation is the best way you can show your appreciation, but depending on the person California offers a lot of options from desert, mountains and beaches. Each one of these locations unlocks different emotions that usually brings back an inner peace. When it’s time to turn-up Las Vegas is a quick trip and the Bay area is always a nice trip as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Tim at Heart 2 Heart relationship Talk Show for the introduction and my partner / manager Greg Campbell of SplendidRadio who has backed me thus far and another shout out to Santana with Truthseekers Radio who truly supported from the beginning my journey to achieving goals with Pharcyde TV. Most of all Thank the Creator for giving me the will and courage to pursue my goals.
