We had the good fortune of connecting with Romy Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Romy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love people. I love people’s dynamics of thought, their projections of intentions, and how they interact with their environment that allow me to explore this seemingly infinite creativity of humans.

Through photography, I’m able to connect intimately to these conditions and since I’m a tech geek, it also gives me an avenue to utilize cool tech both hardware and software.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is through the medium of Photography. I focus my work on people and environments where I utilize the surroundings to tell the best story for the subject. I’m the most proud of how I’m able to draw out the complex story from each individual I photograph through my direction and their participation.

I got where I am today through the need to fill a curiosity of stories and experience. How can we experience as much as life as possible? Through dialogue. Photographer allowed me to explore my loving of technology but more importantly interaction with people that perform at their best. around 8 years ago, my local hip hop community was able to showcase two individuals Alexander Chung, amazing choreographer currently residing in Los Angeles, and Taylor Hatala, viral dance video sensation turned professional dancer and creator, and because they hit it big in LA, they introduced me to various artists that work with Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and JLo, and this definitely catapulted my career.

I’ve learned through this journey is that working hard and playing hard allows you to see your potential of you and your environment. But, you do have to learn how to also balance rest and recovery to walk the long walk of being a creative.

I’ve developed my brand to a state where when people see Romy Young Photography, they know its going to be of not only high quality, they’re also going to see a story of someone interesting, that’s put themselves in environments that can challenge, push, and develop themselves into masters of their craft.

In terms of my personal branding, people can see that I live a life that I get to do what I love and spend it with the loves of my life, my son Asher, wife Joyce, and Mother Mercy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where I currently reisde, I’d take them to the rocky mountains in Banff, Alberta where they’ll get to see the amazing creations of god and enjoy the crisp air and warm hospitality of the Canada west. There’s a beautiful spot called Crazyweed in Canmore, Alberta right next to Banff, that serve amazing Rustic chic vibes, that has a very inventive menu, great wine and cocktails, and amazing mountain as the background.

If I was in Taiwan where I’m originally from, I would take them to the night markets that are full of hawker stands where you can enjoy the delicacies like Bawan (肉圓) literally meatball, but imagine it like a large glutenous ball willed with meat, and bamboo shoots, and sweet, spicy, and salty sauce that goes on top… just amazing!!! You can then go to have the amazing Boba tea locations to enjoy different mixes of drinks, and also shaved ice locations for that cooling that’s much needed in the tropical heat of Taiwan. There you’ll find the most hospitable taiwanese friends that are always there to guide and help you get to the places or even recommend locations to go to, i.e. Karaoke bars that serve all you can eat bars with amazing drinks for only $10 for a whole 3-4 hour session!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout first to my loving parents. They are amazing jazz musicians and event producers. Throughout my younger years, they showed me how to create joyful environments and experiences for others to interact in and I believe this is truly a huge foundation of why I love and find people and their conditions so interesting and worth exploring. Second is my wife Joyce and my son Asher. They give me a reason to be driven to strive for the best so that they can experience life fearlessly and to its fullest,
