We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodolfo Delgado Botello and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodolfo, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m a proud Mexican- born and raised in the city of Monterrey. Growing up in Mexico, my family always raised my determination through words of encouragement. Still, today, whenever I FaceTime my Mom and share a challenge I’m going through, she always responds: “Tú siempre puedes (You always can.)” Naturally, it has become one of my favorite phrases- I’ve been hearing it for over 34 years! It’s incredible to recognize the power that words can have when they’re coming from someone you love- I strongly encourage you to remember that the next time you speak with someone or form new connections.

But when I first came to New York, things were different. It felt like I was in the jungle. I had no American friends, family, or other connections to fall back on. I had to forge my own path and surround myself with people who had my best interests at heart. Those are the people who became a part of my New York family and who I now call friends.

Today, I can say that I owe all of my accomplishments to the encouragement and support I received from those close to me. If you’re one of those people, thank you for helping me get to where I am today- I’ll keep working hard to make you proud.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think I speak for every entrepreneur when I say it’s never easy. But if you’re reading this and you’re kind (or desperate) enough to take advice from a stranger, all I can tell you is this: focus on what is within your control, and let go of everything else.

Seven years into my venture in New York, I’ve found myself in countless anxious and difficult circumstances. If I kept worrying about everything that was not under my control, my body would probably be petrified by now! So, whether you’re in advantage or adversity, ask yourself: “Is this within my control?” This will help you find clarity and a little bit more peace.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For Food and Wine:

I’m definitely not vegan (I’m quite meat-based, actually,) but I’ve been introduced to a few plant-based restaurants that blew my mind- I think everyone should try them. On the East Village, visit Lady Bird, Cadence, or Avant Garden.

If you’re in the mood for Italian, try Rezdora.

In Brooklyn, go to French Louie – their wine list is fantastic. Or try Lilia, their fixed menu is incredible.

For Fun:
During warm weather, visit Little Island Park at Pier 55, or go and see The Vessel for great pictures.

For Intellects:
Fotografiska is one of my favorite museums in New York – very contemporary.
The Morgan Library & Museum is almost the exact opposite: a beautiful library that may remind you a little bit of the library on the movie “Beauty and the Beast”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Lorett Vigon, my first U.S Mentor, thank you for believing in me and giving me my first shot. (Lorett was quite literally my real estate agent when I arrived in New York! She was the first person to whom I “reached out shamelessly.”)

Frederick Kauber, once my university teacher, turned primary mentor when I ventured into opening up my own company. Fred, you’re a rockstar, and I’ll never forget over four years of patience and wise advice.
