We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodney Livingston and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I really wanted to work for myself on my own time. Time is really one of the things I value most & being able to do things when I wanted to, really attracted me to it. Once I was able to figure out how to make money without relying on having a boss, everything went up in the right direction.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been doing music related work since I was in middle school, 8th grade to be exact. So basically it’s been about 14 years of doing music. It wasn’t easy at all getting into this industry being unknown. It took a lot of work to just prove that I’m capable enough to be the person that people needed for their events. The one thing I learned along the way was to just be persistent & keep striving for excellence. I overcame all my challenges by working hard to become a great DJ & showing people that I am the one that will do right by them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t really go out as much unless I’m working but some of my goto spots are Cru Lounge & Mirza Lounge if I’m looking to party. As far as eating goes, I suck at finding consistent spots. I usually eat at Cru or I’ll probably switch it up & tryna random restaurant on Buford Highway somewhere. There are a lot of spots in Atlanta other then clubs that people can check out. I like the trap music museum and the aquarium. Or if it’s warm enough, Piedmont park is a good chill spot.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this to my late grandfather who I lost early on in my life. I also want to dedicate this to everyone who believes in me & believed in me since I started working for myself.
