We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodesha Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodesha, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from a small rural town in Maryland. Growing up, I encountered lots of challenges including ones with my health. A lot of time during my childhood was spent in hospitals. That is where my fascination with medicine and admiration for nurses began. My true calling in life is to help others. This has to have stemmed from the fact that so many people have helped me in various ways.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began my nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse, later earning my associate’s degree and then bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Being a student while taking care of a family and home was not easy by any means. My family and my persistence were key in helping me to overcome the challenges I faced. I tore my ACL during my LPN program and then later fractured the same knee during my associate’s program. Both times, I finished clinicals with a brace on my leg and using crutches!

I’m most excited about my new business venture. Thrive Wellness and Hydration was opened by myself and a good friend earlier this year. Not all medical treatments warrant a visit to a doctor or hospital. Thrive provides a wide array of IV hydration therapies that are given in the comfort of our clients’ homes.

I have a professional (corporate) nursing career, manage Thrive, and assist my husband with his business. I want everyone reading this story to know that you can wear many hats and they all can fit!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would give my friend a little bit of all metro Atlanta has to offer. At least one day (or two) at Chateau Elan for spa services and relaxation.
A night out for music, dancing and fun.
A visit to one of the state parks to enjoy the scenery.
Brunch in the city.
A concert or show.

Atlanta is such a diverse city and has many jewels. There are areas outside of metro Atlanta that are great to visit too, like the Blue Ridge Mountains. Everywhere you go, there are opportunities to meet new people and socialize.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is also an entrepreneur. He exudes a level of dedication and personal sacrifice that is unmatched when it comes to pursuing your dreams. It’s quite motivating for me when it comes to my endeavors. My mother always pushes and encourages me to be more and do more. She was instrumental in my decisions to further my education in nursing. She always said, “Just do it. It will never happen if you wait for the perfect time.” I live with that advice to this day.
Lastly, my adult children who inspire me with their creativity and outlook on life.
