We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Here’s my definition of success:
As I’ve embarked upon this entrepreneurial journey, one of the most important things I’ve learned is that you must have mentors. Not just one, but many for various aspects of your life, business and/or career. I personally believe you should have a spiritual/life coach mentor, business mentor and financial mentor. Having several mentors give you targeted advice/perspective. It also keeps you accountable in various areas.
One of the best resources I found for business mentorship is the SCORE organization (https://www.score.org/ ). SCORE provides free business mentoring services and educational workshops to entrepreneurs and small-business owners in your local area.
Additionally, you must have “community”. Community for me is a designated group of like-minded individuals who are looking to achieve and grow towards the same goals/accomplishments. The community must ensure growth by continually challenging the members to stretch their knowledge and apply their knowledge through action.
Always surround yourself with those that can push your farther into greatness. If you’re the smartest person in your circle, find another circle, where you aren’t so you can grow. You should always be looking for the next level of growth and opportunity to be challenge. If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.
Be a life-long leaner. Your business or company is in constantly growing and changing. Are you keeping up with new technology and marketing techniques? Are you embarking on new trainings or certifications to remain relevant? What you did 5 years ago, is probably not going to attract the same clientele. You must stay in a constant mode of learning. Yes, that means reading! Take time to research what’s going on in your industry. What are those who are successful doing? Success leaves clues. We must keep evolving as the world changes.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I decided to start my business in 2004 in my home state of Arkansas, I was “in-between” opportunities. It started as an Engineering Consulting company (as per my background). I didn’t do much with it initially, as I found full-time employment only a few months later and moved to Tennessee. Time went by, life happened and then we all found ourselves in the middle of a pandemic. It was in 2021 that I decided to re-vamp my company, Wilson Consulting, LLC. (still working full-time) and do the work I was passionate about, working with business professionals to enhance their online presence and visibility and provide information/resources to ensure growth.
What sets us apart is that Wilson Consulting, LLC. is a “Resource Connection” Consultancy connecting people with information and possibilities and transforming through the power of LinkedIn. The mission of the company is to engage business professionals through the power of sharing ideas and experiences. We have 20+ years of Professional Networking and Business Consulting experience. We connect B2B and B2C with information, professional networking, and information resource services. Our services include LinkedIn Optimization, Resume review/critique Professional Networking Development, and our monthly subscription offering, The Connect Info Hub. Our vision is to bring quality resources to business professionals providing knowledge transfer & innovative solutions.
As an entrepreneur, it takes Boldness to step out on faith to fulfill your God-given destiny and vision. This is not for the faint of heart. You must be able to overcome fear and catapult your faith/belief to the next level. Boldness also takes courage. Courage to speak up, courage to speak out, and courage to stand on your morals and ethics. Your business idea may be new and cutting-edge. You must be bold and confident to walk the journey through. Boldness is also about leadership. Some of the greatest leaders I’ve seen are bold and confident in their stance, demeanor, and action.
What I want the world to know about Wilson Consulting LLC is that we truly are investing in “connecting” people. Authentic connections to information and resources will advance them to that next level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a Southern Girl at heart, I love Mary Mac’s Tea Room for some great soul food. Polaris and The Garden Room are also cool places to hang out and have drinks. As far as places to visit.. Of course, the King Center, World of Coke, The Georgia Aquarium, and CNN plaza.. are some of my favorites.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my parents, Robert and Barbara Wilson, for setting the path of excellence for me. My dad was an entrepreneur, and we had a family business growing up. My mom was an educator. I worked in the family business and learned to appreciate the value of hard work and dedication. I’ve carried this into my career and business life, however, I also learned to work smarter and more productive. I would also like to shout out my sister, Madalyn Nelson, who has always been my biggest supporter and encourager. It’s vital to have a strong support system and I’ve been extremely blessed.
