We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Steagall, RDN, LD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, what do you attribute your success to?
Loving what I do is the single biggest key to my success. It shines through in the relationships I form with my colleagues and the bonds I create with my clients. People can tell when you’re not genuine, especially in a service that relies on trust and care. When I show up for someone, it’s because I am fully invested in their success, as they define it. My clients return to me year after year and refer friends and family because they sense the love and commitment in the service provided. This, I believe, makes all the difference in client outcomes.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My journey into owning a private practice began unexpectedly when my primary care physician asked if I could see some of his patients for help with weight loss, prediabetes, and other lifestyle-related health conditions. Sixteen years later, as the owner of Body Science RD, I’m still working with his patients and referrals from other primary care practices. Additionally, I work with clients who self-refer, come through word-of-mouth recommendations, or are friends and family of existing clients. My business has grown entirely organically, and it’s been an exciting ride! I had never really considered being in private practice, but once I started working one-on-one with clients, I knew this was my life’s purpose. My clients give me so much in terms of their trust, their challenges, their hard work – they inspire me every day to give my best!
However, there have been challenges. In the beginning, the isolation of working independently was daunting, and I missed the camaraderie of my corporate days. Recognizing the need for connection, I took a leap and began volunteering with the Georgia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Through those professional connections, I was able to rebuild my professional community.
What sets my brand, Body Science RD, apart is deeply personal. It mirrors my values: expertise gained through professional training and lived experience, authenticity in every interaction, and a genuine care for others. Becoming a dietitian was actually my second career. Initially, I worked in consulting, specializing in project management. Later, after becoming a dietitian, I transitioned into public relations, focusing on nutrition communications for large corporate clients. Additionally, I’m a wife and a mother to two active boys, allowing me to truly empathize with the challenges and pressures many of my clients face.
My dietetic training equips me with expertise in nutrition science and human health, while my life experiences provide practical insights. This combination enables me to help clients integrate the science of nutrition into their busy lives effectively. I understand firsthand the whirlwind of crazy travel schedules, the confusion of conflicting nutrition advice, and the weight of high expectations. However, through these experiences, I’ve learned that the health journey is deeply individual, influenced by countless factors. It’s my passion to assist my clients in successfully navigating these challenges and achieving better health.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My family and I live north of the city in historic Roswell, and we love being able to access the parks in and around the Chattahoochee River. There are so many great places to hike, relax, and reconnect with nature. For a fun family night, I would definitely recommend checking out the concert series at Riverside Park, which is held on the last Saturday of the month from April to either September or October. Adults can spread out a picnic blanket and enjoy great music, while the kids can run around and play. For local dining and shopping, you can’t go wrong with Canton Street. A few of my favorites are Salt Factory and Osteria Mattone.
Staying local, one of my favorite lunch spots is Jerusalem Bakery and Grill – the hummus and tabouleh are delicious, and the pita is heavenly! And for a caffeine break, I head to Pop’s Coffee Co. for an Americano. Between the beautiful motorcycles and the delicious coffee, I’m able to recharge my inspiration tanks!
For a girls’ night out, I highly recommend a trip into the city for dinner at Lyla Lila’s followed by a show at the Fox Theater!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout would go to my colleagues in the health care community – specifically the incredible dietitians I have met in the Georgia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the amazing integrative health care team at Vine Medical Associates!
