We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Hiers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robin, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
So much here to unpack! 1) It isn’t just a massage, the right therapist performing the necessary modality for YOUR body is key to helping you get back to things you enjoy. Most massage therapists have a ‘routine’ that everyone receives no matter the need. With 30+ years as a personal trainer, I understand muscle actions. That complemented with breath work and muscle testing 90% of the time brings enormous relief to my clients.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I was led to become a licensed massage therapist after a 30+ year part-time career as a personal trainer. God has gifted me with innate knowledge in understanding the mechanics of the human body, it’s movement patterns and the proper balance of it.
During that time as a personal trainer, I also worked as a project manager for many years in Corporate America. I feel this gave me the knowledge on how to run a business, how to market and more importantly not just look at a massage as just a massage. But the actual person, their healing needs and how do I help them get there. Many times this requires thinking outside of the preverbal ‘massage treatment box.’
Restoration Sports Massage & Wellness is not your traditional massage company. I incorporate multiple different modalities (Neuromuscular, muscle testing, manual lymphatic drainage, breath work and among others) assisting my clients to either stay in the activities they enjoy or helping them heal from injury or accident. My massage philosophy is beginning with a lighter touch, I can examine the feel of the skin/fascia to know if the potential issue is more surface based vs. deeper in the muscle structure. Automatically performing deep tissue, misses many pain related problems.
There’s not much that brings me more joy than seeing my clients get back to the lifestyle they love. Many are at wits end and feel that pain will be part of their life forever.
A diagnosis, chronic pain or just getting older should never define how we move forward in life. We should continue to always explore holistic practices to help us feel better and continue to enjoy the lifestyle we love and enjoy!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
North Georgia in the Fall: The first stop for breakfast is a little place in Johns Creek, GA called “Uptown Cafe”. They have phenomenal gluten-free pancakes!
After that yummy breakfast, we leave for the mountains of North Georgia for a few days. Our first stop is a little German town nestled in the North Ga mountains called Helen, the town hosts a fantastic October Fest! We would spend the first day enjoying the cute little eclectic shops, festive foods and the cool Fall weather!
We have reservations at a log cabin in Helen because of the hiking that’s available in the area and the beautiful scenic vistas.
Day two brings a visit to Georgia’s highest peak, Brasstown Bald which sits at 4,784ft. The hike up was beautiful and clear, we could see for miles! After our hike, we headed back into Helen for lunch and to watch the Georgia Bulldogs game!
Day three, we head back to my home but first we stop by the Dawsonville, Ga outlet mall for SHOPPING!
Day four, we sleep in and then go for brunch at a local Broken Egg Cafe. I gave my friend the option of seeing Stone Mountain or going to downtown Atlanta. They chose Stone Mountain so we headed there for the day. As someone that lives here, I don’t go to the mountain often, except to maybe get a long, hilly run in. It was fun to do all the touristy things at Stone Mountain for a change. A fun day! This made for another long day, so we headed home, ordered in and relaxed for the evening.
Day five was a day of pampering! We spent the day up at Chateau Elan’s spa. Massages, mani/pedis, facials and wine!
Day six was the end of our fun week together.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
