We had the good fortune of connecting with Ro Kendawls and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ro, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Kendawls helps impact the community by providing youth with modeling opportunities that helps build self confidence. Fashion can help cope our overall mental state. A portion of the funds I raise from designing are also donated to a local non profit called Dawl Camp. Dawl Camp (Do it All With Love) provides quarterly educational workshops to low income youth in the community that will allow them to reach their full potential. These programs reinforce mental and physical activities that will help reduce the rate of behavior problems, emotional development, poor role modeling, insecurities and more found in youth across the world.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kendawls is a Kids Streetwear fashion line that promotes youth empowerment, inspiring youth from all ethnic backgrounds to feel confident in their own skin. Kendawls handmade storytelling designs represent the past, present and future of kids’ cultural fashion. Imagining the Next Generation of fashion to be Creative, Transparent, Uplifting, Encouraging and Inspiring to all youth. Kendawls designs are one of a kind, with streetwear vibes made to wear on the go. What sets my brand apart from others are my urban garnements representing cultural eras and celebrating them in a new light. I enjoy providing youth with the opportunity to develop in the modeling industry by traveling to collaborate with models, photographers, hair stylists, and mua’s all over the world to complete projects. As a designer I’m most proud to give back to the low income youth in my community. Providing them with sustainability is what I look forward to. Pursuing success isn’t easy the only thing that makes it easy is the reminder of those you’re doing it for. I overcame a lot by having faith and staying true to what I want out of life. Watching inspirational videos, attending seminars and taking the necessary steps to help develop me. I’ve learned not to be so hard on myself when things didn’t go as planned. I would overwork myself thinking that I had to rush into success and keep up with competitors. Which led to a lot of unfinished and rushed work. Once I started changing my mindset, allowing my mistakes to shape me and understanding it’s okay to fail just don’t stay there. My vision for creativity became more clear when I learned to be consistent with my time management. I want the world to know that Kendawls is here to help create a better society for all youth. Once you change your mindset you can achieve anything.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places to visit in ATL is Ponce city market. You can literally do it all here from shopping, dining, to riding rides and playing arcade games. I also love to hang out and ride the. scooters at Piedmont park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Kendawls Brand is a group of individuals I would love to acknowledge. If it wasn’t for the parents and models showing up to sets with positive attitudes encouraging each other especially when things got tough. They have been a huge part of the growth, development and success of Kendawls. I would also like to thank my fiancé and two daughters Ayden Kendall and Cali Dream. They believed in me and my vision since day one and have made it easy on hard days because of their continuous dedication and support.
