We had the good fortune of connecting with Riska Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Riska, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is being humbled enough to share my transparency of being a makeup artist and being in position to help others start their makeup career or give them leads to greater to a greater journey within their career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a makeup artist for over 16 years.. it’s the “Wow” factor I love. I can be talking to someone and I’ve already did their makeup inside my head before I’ve touched their face. That’s how I know it’s real. At the age of 5, I knew beauty was in me. I would take my mom’s beauty products and play and put them back before she got home for the evening… That developed into me collecting Seventeen magazines to look at trendy beauty products listed so I could try them out. That grew into me wanting to get into how faces were created along with fashion and studying makeup at 19. I enrolled myself into beauty school and finished school right into a freelance role at MAC cosmetics. I had artist teach me different tricks and and current trends and I built my artistry of how I do makeup off that and of coarse great professionalism . I always say that every artist is different in their beautiful way. Starting a makeup artistry business was easy because I love it . Major lessons I’ve learned along the way is #1. Remain humble and true to yourself and your beliefs. #2. Never enter the room thinking you know everything. We all had to craw and bump our heads before we walked our walk. #3. If you’re in a greater position, or resourceful reach back a help the next person. #4. Be respectful of time and professional at all times. #5. Pay attention and be quiet and take notes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone is visiting I’d like to take them to 1. Kennesaw mountain
2. Ferris wheel
3. Martin Luther King Museum
4. Aquarium
5. STK
6. Harolds Chicken and Ice Bar
7. Breakfast (Thumbs up Diner)
8.Back to the Airport

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank Lashonda Dixon for always being in position to help me and supporting my artistry. Not only that she’s an Amazing friend.
