We had the good fortune of connecting with Rickay King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rickay, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I find my motivation and strength to keep pushing forward in my music career from three important sources. First and foremost, my faith in God is the cornerstone of my journey. I feel like I’m following a path that He’s laid out for me, and it happens to be in the world of music. So far, it’s been a blessing, and I’m grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

Secondly, the people I surround myself with play a significant role. I’ve made a conscious decision to distance myself from negative influences and instead keep those who genuinely believe in me and my talent close. Their unwavering support and positivity keep me motivated and focused.

Lastly, my self-confidence is a driving force. I’m not afraid to say it – I know I’m talented, and that confidence is what propels me forward. Even in an industry with millions of aspiring artists, I’m determined to stand out because I believe in my abilities.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hey, I’m Rickay, a recording artist in Hip-Hop and R&B. What makes me unique is my background and who I represent. I’m a bit of a wild card, born in Buffalo, NY, where the culture of the north side always inspires me. I grew up in the countryside of Gainesville, Georgia, picking up a southern lingo, and I also represent my Puerto Rican culture, adding a bilingual spice with a mix of Reggaeton and the Atlanta sound to my music.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they’re my best friend, they’re likely in the music industry. So, we’re visiting every engineer and producer I know, and we’re either making music together or attending music networking events.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shout-out to Austin Welchel, also known as “The Human Record Player.” He saw my talent long before anyone else did and graciously welcomed me into the music industry. For the past three years, he has been a fantastic mentor, guiding me on this incredible journey. His support and belief in me have been instrumental in my growth as an artist.
