We had the good fortune of connecting with Richelle Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richelle, how do you think about risk?
Expanding a business in an unfamiliar town is very risky but if you believe in your why, you will be willing to take a leap of faith. I’ve always been gifted in the arts field and consider myself to operate on the right hemisphere of my brain. Before I defined my business, crafting was an outlet for me to express myself and enhance my mental health and well-being. It has never been about the money for me until I recognized the value in my work. When I originally started my business, I was only making wreaths and head pieces. After moving to Acworth, Georgia my husband encouraged me to expand my business and offer event decor, including balloon decor.

Taking in his suggestion I was very reluctant to do so due to my globophobia. I also knew that event decor supplies can be quite pricey. I questioned who would hire me since no one knew me and how would I decorate an event when I was so afraid of the balloons popping but I had to find my why. I love the joy on my customer’s faces after providing them with an experience that enhances their special day. I feel my purpose in life is to serve others and bring them joy. Through my business I can supply that but it does come with a cost.

I’ve learned in this first year of my business expansion to know my worth and charge for it. I took the risk of giving discounts to get my name out there and get photos of my work for marketing purposes but that didn’t bring in the money necessary to run a business. So I furthered my training in balloon decor and started charging my worth. It’s still an area that I’m growing in but I believe the progress is paying off. I still get to see happy customers but now reap the benefits of my labor.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With my art I like to curate experiences. I ask myself “How can my work enhance your home or your special day?”. Wreaths are the first impression someone has of your home. They can be inviting or cause people to pass judgment of your home sometimes. I love to create unique pieces that pop had make homes stand out. With my headpieces I enjoy providing that same wow factor. I want people to receive their purchase and truly feel like a Queen when they wear them. For my event decor, I love pops of pizazz here and there to wow guests and keep the client happy. What sets me apart is the behind the scenes customer service. Through every step the customer should feel heard, respected and then seen. When they see their final product I want them to experience what they requested and even more that they could fathom.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in the Atlanta area has been a pleasure thus far. I enjoy partronizing and just walking around businesses at The Battery. I love visiting Acworth beach, Sandy Springs city hall and the Chattahoochee River for outdoor fun but downtown Atlanta is where it’s at. I would recommend purchasing a city pass and visiting the attractions right in the heart of Atlanta. My favorite place is the Aquarium. As an aquarium lover, I love to visit different locations but Georgia by far has exceeded my expectations for aquariums! If I had to choose a favorite place to eat I couldn’t but brunch would be the best time to eat but make sure to have reservations. I enjoy Breakfast Boys, Another Broken Egg, Rock South, Tupelo Honey, Milk and Honey and so many more gold places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would be nothing without Jesus Christ and I do everything in and through Him. Without Him none of my success would be made possible. I also credit my lovely husband who continuously pushes me and physically helps me on the day of my events. I’m grateful for our families that support me through this process as well. Moving to the Atlanta area my sister connected me with my first few clients and I’m tremendously grateful for that!
