We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricardo Thornton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricardo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I could remember I always loved to create. I love the fact that i can take an idea in my mind and turn it into something that people can see, touch, have a conversation about. Being around dope talented photographers I fell in love with the camera. Photography is now another way for me to showcase the creative side of me that most people wouldn’t think I had. Short answer would be I love and appreciate art.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Right now. Quality is one of the things that set me apart from others. I want to provide the highest quality of content you can find. And that’s probably how I got to where I am right now. Also my shot composition. My angles. Thats what I focus on most of the time. I want my images to still be strong 1000+ years from now. Easy? No lol. I study photography daily. There is so much to learn and I never want to stop learning in this field. I want the world to know that I put my all in every picture. Sometimes it turned out the way I wanted alot of times it didn’t but that’s ok. I gave it a shot. I want the world to also know that even tho I do photography because I love it, it’s my vision, it’s me. I do it to impress them. If you’re my client, I do it so you can impress others..
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well let’s say there’s no budget involved first lol. But I would take my best friend to the best places I know of. For breakfast we would have to go to OHOP. Not ihop. I’m talking about The original house of pancakes. There’s a difference lol. But I love their food, reminds me of the great times growing up. That’s where my grandma would take us after church on Sundays. Line would be down the block so we always went to 7:30am service so that we beat the afternoon church crowd that were coming. Have to hit a imagine theater for a movie. The seats recline and the drink will could put you to sleep if you don’t pace yourself. Have to go downtown Detroit. Go to the river walk or bell isle to enjoy some free fun. Nice place to talk and reflect. Of course you will see some nice looking women. Cool vibes most of the time. The Detroit river is right there and beautiful. You get a great view of Canada. It’s so close you feel like you can throw a rock across it. Could hop on a boat ride as well. Have to hit the malls and do some shopping. Somerset the go to. Or outlets and stores in Downtown Detroit. Afterwards go to one of the casinos in Detroit. We have 3 so there are options. For more site seeing we have the mo-town hitsville museum. Spirit of Detroit statue, and the fist. We have a lot of great places for dinner. We take pride on having the best lamb chops lol. Club hop to the hottest clubs downtown Detroit then a Coney Island restaurant to end the night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As far as the photography businesses/industry. I have to give a shout-out to all the photographers that have assisted my career so far. To name a few. Jimmy Whisperz, Bill Barnard, Shaun of image masterz, and CJ hearts Studios. They have been a big blessing to me. My brother has also been a huge blessing to me. He’s not a photographer but he helped my career in the truest form I feel someone can. And my cousin Daishawn Franklin. Also a host of photographers I’ve either worked with and or found on YouTube/ social media sites. I’m really like a Sponge. I will try to learn and gain something from anyone I’m around. I feel if I came across you it was for a reason.
