We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhondaja Denine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rhondaja, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve recently just graduated college with my Bachelors In Journalism. I recently just accepted my first position in my career as a multimedia journalist. I packed up my home in Buffalo Ny quit my job at the hospital and moved over 900 miles away with my seven year old daughter to chase my dreams as a news anchor. I walked in to the unknown but I know my faith would carry me through.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a news anchor I just finished college in Buffalo New York at Canisius university where I receive my bachelors degree in journalism I am the first in my family to complete College, and to become a news anchor. It means a lot to me number one because I am an African-American female, and to be given a media job is a major deal since African-American women are so under represented in America. I chased my dreams. I made sacrifices to get to where I am today. I am now a local news, anchor, Michigan for ABC10 and it is a dream come true for me, fighting through all the odds in my life, not having the support from family that you should but still I made it on top and this is just the beginning of my success

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Professor Dan Higgins he believed in me from the start my first week of school he recommended I watch this series called “Maid” which changed my life forever it motivated me to know that I am a single mother but you don’t have to let that define you.! My daughter watched me chase my dreams and now I get to watch her do the same.
