We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Locher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renee, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I love to truly connect with people; to really listen and understand who they are and what they are about, how they want to feel in their look, and really understand their essence as a person. I believe my desire and ability to see someone for who they really are, as well as combining that with the client’s desired makeup and hair style has contributed greatly to my success. When I am given an inspiration photo of a makeup or hair style from a client, I delve into the all the details and apply what I know about the client, as well as the type of event or photo shoot they are a part of. I take into consideration the entire essence of the person in order to truly bring about the look that they have dreamed of, yet that they also will feel comfortable in. I believe the magic is in the details. What is said in between the lines, and essentially what is conveyed within the makeup/hair style is just as important as what is on the outside as a finished canvas.
What should our readers know about your business?
Renee Locher Makeup and Hair, started back in 2005 with myself being the primary artist and focusing on individual portrait sessions of all sorts. We have evolved over time to specialize in weddings, as well as some tv/film/portraits, and have a team of wonderfully talented and personable artists who I am so fortunate to be able to have working with us. I take care of all business operations, communication and marketing for the company while my artists work with our clients taking care of their makeup and hair services. We value efficiency, organization, quality, sanitation, and delivering exactly the style of makeup/hair that the client desires, as well as having a great time during services! Most of all we love making our clients happy, and helping them to feel beautiful, confident and empowered. To achieve what we have thus far has been a long and winding road. I have always been very independent, determined, curious and creative. I was determined to make my life into something that I enjoyed and was passionate about. My many interests led me down paths that enabled be to learn new skills and encounter and conquer new problems, becoming diverse in talents and abilities, ultimately following in line with who I am to the core. If I had an interest and was curious about something, I would follow my intuition and explore the new area, which I believe is one of the best things you can do to truly follow your unique path. Giving yourself permission to follow your intuition and interests with any business or craft, along with the help of mentors and always educating yourself about your industry are some of the best pieces of advice I believe for anyone trying to do anything. In the more recent years, I have followed my longstanding passion for health and wellness, established a second business, Renee Locher Wellness, and have began to offer bridal wellness coaching to our brides. Looking and feeling beautiful, radiant, and at peace, especially on your wedding day, comes from within first and foremost. Being a Certified Functional Health Coach, I love being able to contribute to our brides’ well being leading up to, on their wedding day, and most of all into their marriage in a healthy, happy and balanced way. Our brand stands for beauty in the essence of the whole person, not only having to do with what you put on your face and hair, but also your energy and well being coming from within. We aim to help you feel comfortable and confident to just ‘be’ in your own skin. Beginning from the moment you inquire with us for services, until long after your big event, we aim for you to always remember how you felt while working with us, and always allow your beauty to continue to shine through all of life’s moments.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to be out and about in the city; certain areas make me feel so happy and energetic and some peaceful and homey. I love a variety. I have always loved walking around the Virginia Highlands area especially in the spring time with all the new blooms. I am a nature and healthy food lover, so we would probably head to Sevananda Natural Foods Market in Little Five Points, grab some lunch to go, and find a spot in a nearby park to eat and enjoy the outdoors. I love to support local vegan restaurants, so possibly a trip to Cafe Sunflower, Buckhead would be in store. I do love unique and interesting cocktails, so The Lawrence, Ticonderoga Club, Kimball House and Golden Eagle are all great candidates. Also, coffee houses have always been my favorite, and Hodgepodge holds a special place in my heart, so we would definitely go there. Markets like Krog Street and Ponce City are alluring because of all the energy and activity, and it reminds me of my days living in NYC so exploring those would be a must. We would need to check out at least one show or performance whether it be live music, a theater or dance performance, or comedy show, something along those lines would be essential. Other favorite spots include East Atlanta Village for food and drink, Piedmont Park for some physical activity, and the West Side Provisions area as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success is a collaboration and combination of so many people, experiences, obstacles that I have overcome and a result of so many lessons learned throughout my life and career thus far. However I would like to make a shoutout to my sister, Lauren Carnes. She is a Communications Strategist for Creatives and is multi-talented force in the creative entrepreneurial world. She is an incredibly positive, motivational, and informative person that has empowered, taught, pushed, and helped me to see the places in my business that needed work. She enables me to see things in a different way if I am stuck, and offers her insight willingly amongst all of her other endeavors. I can’t even say all the ways she has helped over the years to guide me in the right direction, as I do not come from a business background so I had to learn on my own. Having her there was exponentially impactful and I will always be grateful 🙂
