We had the good fortune of connecting with Rekiyah Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rekiyah, how do you think about risk?
I believe that taking risks is essential to growth, both personally and professionally. Some of the most pivotal moments in my career happened because I chose to step outside of my comfort zone, even when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed. Whether it was launching my own practice, taking on challenging cases, or making tough calls when the safer option would have been to play it small, each risk pushed me to learn, adapt, and ultimately grow stronger. Taking risks has helped me uncover new opportunities, build resilience, and gain confidence in my ability to navigate uncertainty. Of course, not every risk has led to an immediate win, but even the setbacks have taught me valuable lessons. I’ve come to realize that calculated risk is often the price of meaningful progress — and without it, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At the Annis Baker Law Firm, we’ve built more than just a legal practice — we’ve built a trusted advocate for individuals and families navigating some of life’s most complex moments. What sets us apart is our commitment to combining legal expertise with a human-centered approach. We take the time to listen, understand, and tailor our strategies to reflect our clients’ goals.

Our journey hasn’t always been easy — like many small law firms, we started with limited resources and a vision that felt bigger than what we could see in front of us. But through persistence and integrity, we earned our clients’ trust case by case. We’re proud of the results we’ve delivered, but even more proud of the relationships we’ve built.

Along the way, we’ve learned that success in law isn’t just about knowing the statutes — it’s about showing up for people, and never losing sight of the bigger picture. Our story is one of resilience, passion, and purpose, and we want the world to know that when you work with us, you’re not just hiring a lawyer — you’re gaining a partner who’s fully invested in your outcome.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d start with brunch at Toast on Lenox or The Breakfast Bar, where the food is fire and the vibe is even better. Then we’d hit The Village Market to shop Black-owned brands and connect with creators doing purposeful work. One afternoon, we’d visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and walk the Auburn Avenue Historic District, soaking in the legacy of Black excellence that runs deep here. One day we’d fully dedicate to the arts: exploring Trap Music Museum, Hammonds House Museum, and catching a show at The Fox Theatre or a live set at Apache XLR. Evenings would be dinner at Twisted Soul Cookhouse, cocktails at Rock Steady, and one night dressed up for a rooftop lounge like Suite Lounge.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If there’s one person I’d like to dedicate this journey to, it’s my late grandfather. He was the kind of man who led with quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and a deep belief in doing what’s right — even when it wasn’t easy. He didn’t work in law, but he lived by the kind of principles that define the very best of the profession: fairness, honesty, and a deep respect for others. His stories, his work ethic, and the way he treated people left a lasting impression on me from a young age. When I faced challenges — professionally or personally — I often thought about what he would do. His influence continues to motivate me every day, and any success I’ve achieved is, in many ways, a reflection of the values he instilled in me. This journey is for him.
