We had the good fortune of connecting with Regine Metayer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Regine, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Life is made of many difficult little choices. My most difficult one was making the choice between uncertain passion and guaranteed 9 to 5. However, it has been the most rewarding and blessing in disguise.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a real artist is NOT easy. I started my dance journey in Port au Prince, Haiti as a teenager. Luckily, after high school, I came to the U.S. to study dance at Florida State University (FSU). After getting my bachelor, I move to NYC to follow my dreams as a professional dancer. While there I danced with several ballet companies such as Ballet NY, Albano Ballet, Brooklyn Ballet and Staten Island Ballet, I decided to leave after 10years. Then, I move to Georgia and Join Ballethnic dance company for 7 seasons meanwhile, I was able to join City Gate Dance Theatre and also performed with World ballet in Tallahassee as a Principal guest artist for 7 years. For the last 8 years I have been a freelance dancer which is very hard in my opinion and to top it off you have to always be in shape and ready to work at any time. I am very excited in my journey as the ballet mistress for a professional ballet company in Gwinnett county (Gwinnett Ballet Theatre), this is a real dream come true for me to be able to share my knowledge with talented and young professional dancers that share my passion for ballet. In conclusion, I believe perseverance is key to success, never give up and keep your head up high.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first thing we would do is visit my neighborhood which is heaven on earth than I will take her to one of my favorite spot for breakfast or brunch in roswell “Douceur de France”. Afterwards we will probably go to the Halcyon or Avalon in alpharetta for some shopping and or for a late lunch/dinner. However, one night we would probably try one of my favorite in midtown Ra sushi and also the aquarium and world of coke are also some good spots to visit as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to start by giving thanks to the Lord All Mighty. I would NOT be who I am today if it wasn’t for my multicultural upbringing and the very resilient and amazing people I have crossed path through the years. I am maybe about to do something out of character which is to thank me, myself and I for sticking to this journey and having the courage to silence the chatterbox.
