We had the good fortune of connecting with Regina & Renee Hammon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Regina & Renee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting our own business was inspired by our mom. Her love and passion for baking was infectious. Not only did it bring her joy, but also everyone around. There’s no better feeling than laughter around the table while enjoying dessert with family and friends.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being twin business partners is very exciting. Getting to where we are today has definitely not been easy. We had to make some hard career decisions by stepping out on faith and trusting the process. The biggest lesson we’ve learned along the way is that everything won’t happen as planned, but when it’s time you will know it. We would want the world to know that our story is built on love. The same love we shared while in the kitchen baking with mom as little girls is the same love we put into every dessert. We hope that when you choose Sweet May’s Desserts that you can feel it too!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start with breakfast at Flying Biscuit Café, then to Atlantic Station or Phipps Plaza for some shopping and we would wrap up the day by hanging out at Ponce City Market, enjoying good music and great food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to dedicate this shoutout to our parents, family, and friends. They have all played a huge role in our success. They’ve all been so supportive over the years and also great taste testers while giving honest feedback. The greatest acknowledgement and THANK YOU would be to God because without Him none of this would be possible.
